Wasn't the defence shit in TO when DJ was running it? That was a shit team though, not his fault. Wasn't the defence shit in OTT when DJ was here? It's a shit team, not his fault. I bet the teams in the west can't wait for LA to show how shit they are.
Ah yes, three NHL teams are idiots for hiring DJ Smith, but you have it all figured out?

edit: Also, Team Canada hiring him multiple times.

I think most sens fans believed he'd be an AHL head coach or an NHL assistant coach as his next job. The guy isn't good enough to be a HC in the NHL, right now anyway.

He's getting an assistant job to a guy who has been a head coach for exactly 0 games. And it's a friend, as they were both assistants together under Babcock in Toronto. This isn't the accomplishment some here think it is.

LOL. Talbot's breathing into a paper bag with this news.
Poor guy signed a one year show me deal and his numbers were very good at the beginning (they've regressed as the team has started sucking). Now he's going to need another one year deal elsewhere if DJ is responsible for the D.

If i was Berube i would just live off 6 month contracts. Sign with the worst team in the league each year at the midpoint, then take them to the Cup, then sign again mid next year.

I'm glad DJ found another job so quickly.

The entire Sens team really let him down by playing the way he wanted them to.

Remember when we lost 7-2 and the players looked like crap on the ice and DJ said “this is on me. I didn’t get the guys ready”

NO accountability. DJ was running an NHL daycare. Players couldn’t be critiqued and he didn’t have the authority to coach because he decided to keep the locker room happy instead of holding them accountable and making them a bit uncomfortable when they sucked - snowflake dressing room disguised by the fists of the Captain who was doing a 4th liners job to make us look tough.

Y'all need to face the fact that getting hired by another NHL team mid-season, 10 weeks after getting fired mid-season, is usually a sign of a good, highly regarded coach.
He got demoted from HC to interim assistant, and Hiller, the interim HC who brought him in to be an assistant, worked with him in Toronto under Babcock,

I really don't think there's much to read into here, seems like Hiller is doing his buddy a solid, more of a good timing thing than snatching up a highly regarded commodity.

That said, DJ was always a well regarded assistant, I don't think many doubted he could find another gig in that role, but if he wants to be HC again, he might need to do it in the CHL or AHL first.

Jacques Martin will probably remain at his role the rest of the season. 6-2-2 (or something) in the last 10 games playing the right way. The team is marching to his tune and he is teaching them fundamentals. The difference is marked with some expected gaffes against elite teams such as AVS and NYR. The players loved DJ, but he was not teaching them anything new other than being losers.

Stay patient. TDL will be interesting. NYR, Canes, and NYI are potential partners. Think Chychrun and Tarasenko will be traded. Hope they find Branny and Kubalik new homes. Don’t think they are giving up on sell-low Norris yet.

This board is sometimes like running a daycare. ;)

Friedman just said he suspects DJ was the #1 candidate to coach Team Canada at the Worlds. On the Marek show.

As I have stated previously, a motivational coach works in small tournaments/a playoff series. Canada should be able to assemble a competent squad with lots of NHL/pro hockey experience, he is not coaching young NHL players, so this may be a good opportunity for DJ. Motivation is his strength, and as per LA Kings fans that's exactly what they are lacking as they think Todd McClennan held back a lot of creative youngsters (but who are well taught on the defensive side of the game).

21 games, that is 1/4 of a season.

Even here, take a look at the last 10 games.. significant improvement. By about game 30 of Martin's time, the team could be doing real well!

All the teams that fired their coaches, are improving and climbing the standing... it is way too early on LA.

It does seem that most of the fired coaches have been justified!!! which should alarm us, as to the value of these fired coaches.

And should piss us off.. DJ should have been gone the same day as Dorion.
