In watching the broadcast, I found this so fing annoying. These were jumping around way to much.

i thought this was distorting some of the game Feedsnd it’s angles/ views were not the same.

right now living in the metro DC area I’m watching the local broadcast of the caps/Laughs game…

I’ll see if this is different

Colorado's feed was showing both ads. Digital ads were slightly transparent and then they turned them off completely. Seems Calgary's feed doesn't have those issues.

I'll take the jersey ads/digital ads anytime over the ad jungle that this place has become.

It's getting real close to the point of unusable.
Ad blocker was a beautiful thing. The worst was the video ads that would disrupt whatever radio / music service you were streaming.

Even if these ads did not change doing gameplay i will still say it's horrible.

I believe it still makes the picture quality worse because there are things added to the broadcast digitally.

When there are ads superimposed on the glass behind the goals.... and on the ice, there are fine lines around the ads you can see if you look closer.
So no matter what, digital ads makes the picture quality worse and of course the viewing experience worse as well .

Digitally added game clock and score are always up in a corner of the screen, or at the bottom.
So the fine lines around it do not bother you.
But on the actual playing surface? No!

this whole thing needs to go!

I feel like writing a script for a play based on this.....

*Cold Opening*
Some techy nerd who has never watched a hockey game in his life walks into a bar in Greenwich Village and immediately catches the eye of a marketing intern from NHL head offices.
Nerd - "hi"
Intern - "hi"
Nerd - "can I buy you a drink?"

etc etc

Okay something I have been wondering about this.

Did the advertisers who bought physicals ads in the building know this was going to be happening when they signed their contracts? Were they sold ads at the same rate? Because their exposure now is a fraction of what it was before having these physical ads covered up during the broadcasts. You might have some really upset companies who feel like they're not getting their money's worth on their physical ad buys here.

Imagine being approached about buying ad space from the network when you have already bought ad space from the club/arena and didn't know this was going to be happening?

From what ive seen so far, a lot of the companies with digital ads have ads on the actual boards as well. So maybe there was an option to include both?

Right, but previously your ads were also seen by road teams, now they're not, so even if you're billed what you were previously you're probably only getting seen by about half as many people. And if it's a national game, your boards are only seen by people in the arena.

"Like anything else, you're going to have your people that don't like it, that think it is difficult to watch. But over time, like everything else, people will get used to it, and we're not concerned at all whatsoever," Keith Wachtel, the NHL's chief business officer and executive vice president of global partnerships, told ESPN ahead of the season.

“Like anything else, you're going to have people that don't like being fed horse turds during the game, or think the horse turds taste bad. But over time, like everything else, people will get used to eating horse turds, or they won't who gives a f***, so we’re not concerned at all whatsoever” - Keith Wachtel, the NHL's Chief Business Officer and Executive Vice President of Horse Turd Partnerships.

If the ads are a focus during game play, this will be a failure. If the ads are a focus during other times, its a win. There may be some compromises made to not distract from the game but its disturbing that they introduced this without consideration of obvious factors for the viewers.

The board ads last night in the Stars-Preds game were awful. Why would they have moving board ads DURING play when you're trying to pay attention to the action on the ice? They're so damned distracting. You can't even leave your seat or go to your seat when the puck is in motion when you're in the arena, but these distracting board ads are A-OK for the TV crowd? Come on. Also hate how flat they make the boards look, you don't see the wear and tear on the boards, it all looks so artificial.

Not everything needs to be digital. FFS.
