The NFL has tons of ads but you'll never see them slathered on the field like this. This is costing the NHL money because people are turning off the games.

did someone say slathered on the field?

Holy f*** these ads are terrible, i thought my stream quality was a problem because i kept seeing a streak across my screen, turns out it was the stupid ass digital ads. Bring back traditional ads because those were not distracting

Don't hold back guys, this is pretty much all we can do about it and it only takes a couple of minutes to type something up.

You're going after the wrong target. Need to go after the advertisers and let them know you're not giving business to anyone that takes part in this abomination.

Complaining to the NHL and the tv networks won't do anything. They know you're hooked on their product.

But the companies that advertise? Make it poison for them to take part in this silliness and the NHL might be forced to back off.

Assen na yo!

Watching tonight's jets game I was honestly expecting them to be more distracting based on this thread. They weren't completely overwhelming.

However the lack of shadows on the far boards, and the pixelated fuzzy outlines of any player that skates in front of them are absolute horseshit. Whoever approved this gives absolutely zero f***s about the viewing experience

I mean, I honestly don't care when they've put an ad on the jersey itself. Just inject RBC mortgage straight into my veins.

It took me a couple games to get used to it, I am looking at the ads a lot more than before. I guess it’s working.

No, many fans are looking away now........ from the entire sport and league

:laugh: No they aren’t. The guy from the league is right. Fans will get used to it and watch in the same numbers they always did, and more as the viewership continues to grow.

There are glitches to work out for sure, but there will be no serious and lasting impact from this.

The NFL is 3 hours of commercials and guys talking about what someone said yesterday with 11 minutes of actual play time.

Anyways this blows, you give these guys and inch and they take the whole roll. They would put advertisements in your dreams if they could. Late stage capitalism sucks.

I'm learning to ignore them. Probably not what an advertiser wants to hear.
Those that want to write to the advertisers complainning that the ads are distracting... are you serious? Thats exactly what those companies want them to be. Noticeable.
I'm guessing that the people who want to write to the advertisers would say something more along the lines of "I will never purchase your product or service as long as you use these terrible ads in NHL games" versus "hey could you make your advertising less noticeable?"

Right... I see. Makes sense.
Do you think when I write to Canadian Tire and tell them I'll never shop at their stores again or write to Budweiser telling them I'll never drink their beer again that they'll believe me?

It's bad.

I also wonder how much of this is by design, because I had a hard time not getting distracted by the boards every time they change.

This is what is driving this

TSN can run Canadian based ads in Ottawa

MSG can run Buffalo based ads
Correct, but here’s my rebuttal: why force the home team feed to have digital ads then? The ads on the boards ARE ALREADY relevant to me as I live in the area. They don’t need to be covered. The away team can still show their digital ads to their market. Leave the home feed alone.

You might say, ”Away markets can watch the home feed on Center Ice!” So what? Center Ice costs money anyway, so that makes up for the home feed not showing digital ads.

Here’s another issue that showed up during the Pens game the other day. When they were on the PP and glass ads AND board ads were on, the PP clock totally disappeared any time it overlapped with the glass ad. ATT then turned off the board ads and the clock did not disappear into the glass ad.

The jersey or helmet ads don’t bother me. I don’t even notice them when watching the game. But these digital ads bursting suddenly does distract me briefly. I’m not gonna stop watching, but I do wish that weren’t so distracting.

I have no idea. I was merely explaining what the strategy of people who feel compelled to write in would most likely be.

I suppose if enough people did it they would be concerned at the number of people unhappy with it.

It's bad.

Totally. For those who say "don't look at them" the human eye is drawn to movement. Yes we don't have to continue to stare at them but it is in our biology for our eyes to detect movement.
