I think people just like to complain. Oh my it's not a big deal folks.
I would prefer that too, but i have to assume that doing it this way allows them to sell more blocks of time to a variety of advertisers. It makes it easy to have a strict timeline for each section.I have a simple solution... don't change the ads unless there's a stoppage in play... however short a time period that might be.
Goalie makes a save and freezes the puck... change the ads. Puck goes out of play... change the ads. Offside whistle?... change the ads. There are plenty of play stoppages during the course of a game therefore plenty of opportunity to change the ads.
Changing the ads during a play stoppage might actually get people to read them instead of concentrating on ignoring them which is what I'll be doing during the current state of affairs.

I noticed that too.DED boards are not on for this TNT game
I noticed that too. Also not on the Sportsnet feed on CI for the Habs/Leafs game.
flawless execution, can barely notice em
The NHL does not need money this badly. They set a record for revenue last season.Watched a bit of the Tampa game last night. Breaks my heart to see the NHL need money this badly! Bettman should organize a telethon instead!
As others have rightfully already pointed out:
At best, it’s very distracting trying to follow the puck and watch the plays develop with animations in the background at the same time.
At worst, it‘s nauseating as your eyes dart constantly around the screen trying to focus on what’s left of the actual sport.
I hate the animated ads (Enterprise, Bud), but even repeating the “O Hub” logo 60 times around the entire rink…like dude WTF…is that even advertisting? It just looks like a mistake honestly, like some intern f***ed up.
I hope this new approach goes away. Or, maybe they can offer an NHL+ subscription, ad-free, which turns this shit off.
When I started watching hockey at the beginning of the 90's the only advertising you had to see and deal with during the in-game broadcast was
-ads on the boards
-a few ads painted on the ice in the neutral zone
-a handful of ads read aloud by the broadcasters
No big deal whatsoever.
Now in 2022 we have:
- animated/moving digital ads on the boards
- digital ads on the ice in the defensive zones
- digital ads on the glass behind the goals, digital ads on the glass on the far boards
- ads on the helmets
- ads on the jerseys
- advertising banners/graphics displayed on the screen while the gameplay is going on
- 5 to 10 second long video ads in between whistles
flawless execution, can barely notice em
Hey, its not all bad. Maybe you could be an Edmonton fan and your owner can take a stand again putting ads on the jerseys. Then to compensate they can turn around and make your concession stand look like this:
flawless execution, can barely notice em
ok if they jitter like this then thats different. very distractingWatching the Rangers/Lightning game I didn’t notice much other than the enterprise car running down the boards but damn that’s horrible.
