Only if you fluked out and traded them together.

Neither one of those guys are going to get us a first on by themselves.

Unless of course they turn their seasons around and Benning learns the art of negotiation.
Like I mentioned above, Dmen like Hamhuis are coveted. He's struggled, but he's had to carry anchors like Weber and Bart all season. That doesn't excuse his play entirely but again, he has a great track record and with salary retention, a team will definitely pay up. If not a first, something of equivalent value.

So should we trade Tanev too because they're the exact same age?

I'd do Edler or Hamhuis plus the second-rounder we got from Columbus for Hamonic....trouble is I think both guys have NTC's.....but if the Isles need to get an established, everyday d-man back for him, the 'Nucks might actually be in a better position than any of the other Western Canadian teams.

And who do these kids play with? You cannot just ice a group of rookies and wait for them to take the league by storm. That is Edmonton's mentality. The results speak for themselves.

Nobody saying to do that. Hell even with trading the veterans rookies being on the team wouldnt be a for sure thing. Instead of bringing up Edmonton why dont you bring up a team like Buffalo? Looks like they've done a pretty awesome job of having a few down years while stocking up on picks and prospects while developing the young guys properly. They kept rienhart in the minors one extra year becaue it was the best thing for his development while having Eichel making the team right off the bat. Each prospect needs to be developed a certain way. Thats the model we should be following.

Sorry dude.

Hey, Willie's a great AHL coach. Reunite him with Vey and all is right in the world again. ;)

It's crazy to think he won the Calder Cup just two years ago. It would be very interesting to watch those archived games. I wonder if he 1-2-3-4ed his way right to the end

Buffalo didn't just hoard draft picks, they moved some too for good young pieces.

Look at the ROR trade for example.

Yea we are. 2016 is 1st overall one
2017 is 1st overall two
whats confusing about that

Didn't Snow say he didn't want picks and prospects anyways? The Isles are trying to compete, and he wants a replacement.

Edler for Hamonic might be the best deal he's offered.

take out the 3-0-1 start.......right there for Austin Matthews

We're never gonna be worse than Edmonton. So at lest we have that going for us. Plus we don't have to live in a god forsaken hellhole AND have a crappy team.

So yay!

No way they take Edler for Hamonic

Kris Russel probably goes there, and hes a better defensman than Edler

This is the defense that Benning INTENTIONALLY put together. This is how Old Coach Willie INTENTIONALLY makes roster decisions/ice time/coaching. These are the people Linden INTENTIONALLY chose to build and run the team. Linden was INTENTIONALLY chosen by Ownership.

I genuinely don't see a way out of this mess for the foreseeable future. Buckle down Canuck fans, we're just pitching over the edge!

Dorsett with the Sedins when trying to score late in the game. What coach in their right mind does that?

What Benning has done to our defense is tragic.

Yup, the defense is a travesty. Above the coaching, which is also highly suspect (Dorsett PP sniper FTW), the structure of the defense makes one question Benning's plan.

@BradZiemer: The #Canucks have 7 wins in first 20 games. Last time they had fewer wins was way back in 1997-98 when they were 4-13-3 thru first 20

All the way back before the Sedins were even drafted... Wow.

You can't be serious.

Kris Russell is garbage. He's had one good year on a shockingly lucky Calgary team.

WHAT? too much canucks fan homerism.

Last year

Edler 31 points (first unit PP as well)
Tons of turnovers
Lead the NHL in worst +/- the year before

Russell 34 points
younger
Lead the NHL in blocked shots.

Time to take off the blue and green tinted glasses

This team is a lot worse than their record indicates.

Well at the quarter pole they are at a 82 point pace. The last few years that's a top 6 pick...when the Canucks picked 6th they had 83 points. Not sure it can get much worse record wise.

I mean, if a contender is trading for Hammer, they better frickin hope it's a late first haha.

It would be wicked if somehow, someway, Hammer was traded for Dallas' first, they lost in the first round do to crap goaltending and Hammer re-signed here. Would rock like a cool fresca.

LOL!

The reason Russel blocks so many shots is because he never has the puck.

Yeah, I guess one thing that works in favour of Hamhuis returning a 1st is the fact that it would obviously be from a contender... or at least some team ready to at least make a little noise in the playoffs... so the pick most likely wouldn't be all that high anyways.

Still, there is Bennings negotiation prowess.... or LACK of. ;)

So its 2-1 going into the 3rd. Time for a big goal and to out shot the opponent right?

Wrong, Canucks get outshot 17-6.

To me, that shows you the type of character this team has right now. Willie has clearly lost the team. Guy is beyond incompetent.

I've been itching to express this thought. It seems the more he pulls his benchings in the third period, his overplaying the vets in the third, relying on guys like Bart over a Tanev for ice time, his refusal to put the best possible PP out there, ignoring the Sedins request for the RHs, using guys like Dorsett late when the team needs a goal or is defending to hold on, his daily shifting of his lines even when he isn't dealing with injuries, and his moronic 3on3 matchups it could be possible that he is losing the confidence of a core group who can't understand it either. The kids sitting every third like they are dog meat can't be keeping a high confidence level with the consistent total lack of faith shown in them. Can't believe the Sedins are on board with what's happening. They are very astute students of the game and this must be causing their hockey minds to grind all kinds of sparks and metal shavings. Remember they supported Torts too like the veteran pros they are, but they weren't in favor of his tactics

If it ain't broke don't fix it. If it is broke and you don't fix it, how do you explain it.

Yeah, he just might be losing this group more and more game by game. It's a more subtle fade than the Torts letdown, but it's like a slow burning fuse. Each guy is second guessing a little bit more here and there with each debacle. Like standing on thin ice in the morning with sun shining and above freezing temps forecast for the afternoon. You know you are going to fall through, but it's just going to take so ******* long and you won't know when until it happens.

Yeah exactly. Thats why I said we should follow there model. They moved out vets out for picks/prospects. Which allows you to build up assets. You can use those assets whatever way you want.
