I honestly don’t see how it impacts it that much. They’ll take whichever package they like the core pieces of better. I can’t imagine they’d be like “oh we prefer Morrow+1st to Holtz+1st but if you add Reilly Walsh that really sways us.” If they like our main pieces best it’ll be us. If not then it won’t be. I think worse case for us adding extra would be them liking us most but saying they like another teams better and then they squeeze out something else minor in the grand scheme from us
I think that’s mostly true, but I also think it’s true GMs care more about organizational depth and non-elite pieces than fans do.

If anything, we have a surplus.

Next few seasons to expect:
Jonas, Marino, Dougie, Luke, Nemec and a veteran/etc

i think they can figure out to trade one of the Muk,Casey,Walsh,Bahl or Ohokituk and still draft more D this coming season and work on trades.

Would hate to give Bahl up, however, I would do it with a bad taste in my mouth.

Meier can do math as well as Bratt can. The total comp can be better over 8 year re-sign.

Trading Bratt for Meier would be absurd because it would literally get us nowhere. Apple to Apple and pay dearly to do it? No thanks.

Meier is worth our 1st. And an A prospect and a B prospect and a bottom six roster player perhaps. But these requests for Bratt, Nemec, etc. are a bit absurd.

So Buffalo is out lol

Buffalo was never really in. Adams just checked in and that was it. The two most serious teams are us and the canes. The canes have good prospects, we just gotta hope San Jose likes ours more and that meier doesn’t want to up with the canes and pulls a fiala and say this is the only team I’ll extend with. Meier being friends with Nico hopefully can play into that.

Also gotta hope the canes owner being cheap at times screws them on this

Don’t confuse what fans want as to what gms want

Jesper + 1st
Holtz + first + B prospect
Nemec + cap fillers?

*IF* the trade were for Bratt, it would be 1 for 1. Either way, I wouldn't expect SJ to want a guy that's only 1 year younger than Meier.
*IF* the trade were for Nemec I would actually expect SJ to included a substantial piece in addition to Meier.

Holtz + First + B prospect is the best bet, however, there are other pieces that could be used. Sharangovich as shown himself to be a decent wing with upside and is being held back by usage. He also has the ability to play Center in a pinch. Mckenzie Blackwood could be in play if the Sharks absolutely demand a goalie and returned back one of their own. I could also see the Sharks demanding Dawson Mercer, but I think the Devils reject that. Seamus Casey may also be of interest to them as he's having ridiculous season in Michigan as a Freshman, but we may be reluctant to let go of him since he's kind of a high-upside wildcard right now, and also has family ties to the NJ area.

As for B prospects, you're probably looking at players like Bahl, Mukhamadulin, or Okhotiuk if they're looking for D. If they demand a Center, the only true center we have would be Jesper Boqvist. Not convinced he would move the needle though.

There's a lot of possibilities.

Listening to Ken Holland (NHL Radio) about the trade deadline and he said it can be tricky making trades early because it may handcuff your team later.

Example: Rangers trade for Vlad and then lose Fox to injury.

Losing Jack would be a great reason to get Timo. Plus getting Timo also gives the Devils more leverage over Bratt. I don’t prefer Bratt to Timo, but if he decides to go you at least have a dope AF backup plan. Maybe you put Jack on LTIR and the Devils could get a couple piece. Bring back Jack for the playoffs..:sarcasm: (Devils get fined for cap circumvention)

Thanks Lightning.

I sometimes feel sad for the players who leave us in a trade but I'm happy they're at least going to Cali
Yea it's completely reasonable to hate losing a player from the team you like but still know it needs to be done and will make the team better.

I'll never understand the push back people get when saying they are upset to see a player go, while at the same time admitting it needs to happen.

Robertson and Thomas are the two who’ve been recent risers.

Robertson is making his own Hart case this year.

Remarkable that 2017 was seen as a weak draft class. May turn out to be one of the strongest recent draft in terms of top end talent.
Robertson is for sure ahead of Nico, forgot about him.

I’m posted up on the couch recovering from norovirus (shout out to my daughter for spreading the wealth, this is the second time she’s given me a stomach bug in a month), and the only that will make me feel better is TIMO.

I hear you. Timo would help me recover from the pinkeye that my son so graciously shared with me too.

Agreed from SJ side. Timo isn’t helping our tank, so the faster he is off the team for a fair package the better. I don’t mind Holtz, #1 and another prospect or a 2nd rounder

Just noticed on the Rangers ' thread that they are up to #15 on their Winter Top 20 prospects list.

Has there ever been a winter poll for the Devils?

For that matter I don't remember one being done last summer either.

Umm....
