I'm kind of surprised that so little sunshine is being cast at Dougie.

51 points is good for 4th in the league by a Defenseman

15 goals is 2nd in the league by a Defenseman - two behind Karlsson

He passed Nico last night in points and he's currently our 3rd leading point producer behind Jack and Bratt.

And people seem to be very ho-hum about it?

Do you mean around the league or around these parts?

I think Dougie gets his flowers from many on here, he certainly isn't getting any recognition league wide at all though. Which is pretty wild because I remember many talking about him in league circles before coming to NJ and somehow he is flying under the radar while having set a new career high in points with 30 games to go and seems pretty likely to hit 20 goals.

Some here seem to be more focused on his defensive miscues but what the guy brings on offense is worth every penny of the contract we gave him.

I also think him and Siegs have gotten a lot of flak recently. They're a solid pairing as a whole that complement each other pretty nicely.

What he's done in this latest stretch is nothing short of remarkable. He's got 13 points in his past 6 games, 5 of them goals, 3 of them game winners and averaging 24 minutes a night. He's been the 2nd most valuable skater to Jack for the past month or so.

Not sure who is being ho-hum. He has been great the last half dozen games with his shot directly winning us a few. My only real complaint about him is defending off the rush. Other than that, he is lights out.

So here I am messing with the Cap Friendly trade generator, which I hate myself for even slightly raising my hopes lol.

Am I right in that to make Meier work, we likely have to have San Jose retain a bit and take back Johnsson? Unless I'm missing something, that seems to be the only way to make the cap flexibility work unless there's something else afoot.

This is exactly what I was thinking off and hoping would be the case. Make an offer and tell them to not make a deal with anyone else without checking back in with us .
Very encouraging to hear this .
But does Grier have a good enough relationship with us to follow though?

Thanks.

Have we ever done a mid-season list as well?

Think that may have more to do with the price tag and the mediocre defensive game.

He's a great power play threat but is being paid Hedman, Pietrangelo type dollars and he's certainly not a prototypical number one defenseman.

I think Dougie has gotten pushed into Hughes shadow a bit nationally, but more games like last night with Hughes not there will get him his attention.

It’s also ironic that we dismissed the Norris as a points award cause Stevens got jipped on it by Bourque and others but now that we have a guy piling up the points there’s zero Norris buzz for Hamilton

He was an assistant coach for us for a couple of years so there is a relationship there. Still, he owes us nothing but it does indicate a GM who is willing to go all in.
Yeah I just didn’t remember if we fired him or he just left cause he got promoted, think it was the latter

Dougie has 5 more 5v5 points than Pietrangelo and 7 more than Hedman.

Even Strength it’s 6 more than Pietrangelo and 6 more than Hedman.

Jesper + 1st
Holtz + first + B prospect
Nemec + cap fillers?

The middle one is the only one that makes sense from our perspective. Bratt is not being moved, Nemec is likely untouchable too.

Holtz + 1st + B prospect is basically what the majority of this board has been hoping for for weeks now. We'd do that, but we'll see if Fitz offers that or Grier accepts it.

Thank you, all! What do you think is Holtz’s upside since we’re not getting Nemec or Bratt?
One of the best shooting toolsets you can get in a prospect. Seems like he has good iq and can make plays.

But his skating is the question. For what it’s worth, he has made big strides this year in his skating. (Pun intended)
