While I like this determination to not get outbid, I worry that it could drive the price up exorbitantly if Buffalo or Carolina comes in with an offer specifically designed to make us top it and overpay.

Meier is probably worth it for most packages we've been talking about here, but there is a point where the price is too high and we should walk away.
I 100% trust Fitz with this. I highly doubt he’d mortgage the future immensely.

I hope Fitz requires some type of proof before he ups an offer

I don't see any of these guys being a deal breaker. In fact, if it gets us Meier, they can have all 3.
If anything, we have a surplus.

Next few seasons to expect:
Jonas, Marino, Dougie, Luke, Nemec and a veteran/etc

i think they can figure out to trade one of the Muk,Casey,Walsh,Bahl or Ohokituk and still draft more D this coming season and work on trades.

I don’t think a GM would burn another GM by giving evidence.

I think you could get general conversation and then it comes down to Fitz to decide if he should move or hold fast based on what he gleans and believes.

I think this board is overselling how involved Buffalo is in this then they actually are. There hasn't been much smoke around them with this.

I do too. Buffalo’s GM even said he was just testing waters. I think it’s us and Carolina till the end.

Buffalo could beat any offer if they really wanted to. They’re just at that point where it’s a year too early for them to be making substantial trades like that especially when they’re not solidly in a playoff spot.

Not to mention they should only do it if they are extending him, but Meier may be hesitant to extend there today, which would complicate matters I imagine.

If he hits UFA for whatever reason, they should be all over him.

This is just positive/delusional fan think but we just check all the boxes on Timo

-have the system depth to make the trade
-can make it work on the cap with an extension
-a contending team trending up (which Meier said he would listen to a reasonable offer for his extension)
-the Swiss Nico/Siegs connection

I think it’s gonna happen unless a contender blows their wad for a rental (Tor, Vegas).

It would be unwise for them to move a 1st when they could easily miss the playoffs. They may do it, but this does not seem like the draft year for that kind of move from a young bubble team.

Would’ve liked Bratt to take over more yesterday with Jack out, but whatever, it’s just one game.
I've said this before (and @DerekDevils30 can attest to this) but Bratt seems to be suffering from Marcus Johansson'itis where he's TOO UNSELFISH when he should be selfish.

THIS is the time to be selfish.

Jack is not playing and the Devils need scoring....from someone...ANYONE.

That LASER off the crossbar just moments before Dougie's Game-Winner illustrated the point that Bratt NEEDS TO SHOOT THE GODDAMN PUCK MORE.

And if not scoring, then at least get it on net and hopefully get a rebound for another Devil to clean up.

All that fancy shmancy passing won't amount to much of anything if they result in a blocked shot by a defender or the puck getting intercepted....

So basically....what we expected.

at least as far as Tkachuk is concerned. (remains to be seen on the Timo front)

I said that it was highly unlikely he suffered the "upper body injury" at the ASG.

I also say, though, that he did NOT suffer the injury during the Canucks game.

What I think happened is that the Daily Grind of the NHL has taken its toll on his body as he's gotten banged around quite a bit from opposing Defensemen and other players.

So I think this "Upper Body injury" is more an excuse to give him time to heal up and get him ready for the stretch run toward the Playoffs.

That random guy on reddit's theory, with no source, that Jack accidentally bruised his ribs is starting to make some sense.

I know you can play through the injury. But what happens sometimes is you overcompensate, and then you and up hurting something else.

Again - no source behind this rumor whatsoever, but it makes some sense. We're in a playoff spot. Let your guy rest up a bit before he has to get knocked around some more.

Given his previous career high was 61 games in his rookie season, it's entirely plausible that he is just worn down from playing all year to this point and could use a couple games off.

Just noticed on the Rangers ' thread that they are up to #15 on their Winter Top 20 prospects list.

Has there ever been a winter poll for the Devils?

For that matter I don't remember one being done last summer either.

Umm....

Not to mention, NJ is basically the NY market without having to deal with the NY media. IMO that's a huge plus. You get all the bennies of being in/around NYC without anywhere near the scrutiny of playing for the Rangers.

I honestly don’t see how it impacts it that much. They’ll take whichever package they like the core pieces of better. I can’t imagine they’d be like “oh we prefer Morrow+1st to Holtz+1st but if you add Reilly Walsh that really sways us.” If they like our main pieces best it’ll be us. If not then it won’t be. I think worse case for us adding extra would be them liking us most but saying they like another teams better and then they squeeze out something else minor in the grand scheme from us
