Over the Devils last 25 games, in which Z has played in 17 of those games, his iSCF rate , as well as his iHDCF rate are better then one player, that being Holtz.

So while his shot rate is really low as well, as a proportion of that shot rate, his weak shots are probably decently high. But again, not an actual stat so who knows.

I was on the hype train coming off last year, and his good start to this year, but like I said, his numbers have really fallen off.

Now is part of that learning to pace himself? Did he come out of the gate too hot, and then hit a wall? Possibly, but then what is his level?

I don't think he is going anywhere though, so he has plenty of chance to regain his footing, but he needs to get back to getting shots on goal.

I’m feeling more and more opposed to including Holtz in any deal. Guy was seventh overall two and a half years ago. That’s a seriously premium asset.

I'd rather trade Holtz than any of our other premium assets.

I don't understand why the Devils prefer to keep him in the NJ team box as opposed to letting him play in Utica, but there is very little there which suggests he should be playing in the NHL. Very concerning for such a high pick given where he is in his career.

In the real world, Big Z has 8 goals, 25 points, and 104 shots in 51 career games. Good player, I trust my eyes.

Have your eyes noticed that he's one of the worst on the team in terms of shot generation since November? Zero goals since Dec 3rd?

I'm not trying to get overly critical of Z, but after a very good handful of games last year, and very good start to this year, he has cooled off quite a bit. I'm hoping he can get back on track, but he needs to reverse trend.

I don't know about pointless, but like the Draft itself, the hypothetical redraft is judging a player up to a certain point in time.

For giggles I took a look point leaders from Holtz's draft year. Mercer currently 4th.

It’s exactly what you’re doing, actually. He was very good last game after being benched unnecessarily for awful players like Miles Wood. Glad he’s back, he’s a quality player.

Wood plays LW on the 4th line. If Z got that role people would bitch about not playing him with good players, never mind playing his off wing.

He also cooled off tremendously, fatigue may have been at play, so I can see why Ruff gave him some time off.

Sounds OK. My point was, if the injury takes longer than expected to recover, then San Jose can try to up the ante since even more, we'd need someone who can score. Fingers crossed.

Excellent point. I was actually telling a Rangers fan exactly this today when he told me about Tarasenko. He was all excited about the trade, but the thought that Meier is now not even a consideration brought him down some. :D

Lebrun says NJ and Carolina are "hot" on Meier, but also other teams involved. Thinks he will get moved well before the deadline.
