Its a bad move. We should trade other assets, not main players. Bratt signed for little but cheaper deal, is under more controlling years. We need good players for more years, not for less. If we are talking about trading Mercer or Holtz or Gritsyuk oror Casey or Hameenaho - thats another conversation.Bratt-for-Tkachuk might be a lateral move on a piece of paper but in terms of the type of game he plays, it's definitely not.
Brady Tkachuk has never even been to the playoffs, and is currently captaining the one of biggest disappointments in the NHL.
I think this team lacks depth as it is. I much rather make a trade that takes fewer pieces. Its a bad move. We should trade other assets, not main players. Not sure if this was talked about but I mean if that's what Rags fans wanna waste their $25 on then good for Amanda but she really should have been able to figure out who it was for lol...
Swapping 1 for 1 totally changes the complexion of the top 6....in my opinion that's the only reason to do it.I don't think swapping any of our forwards 1 for 1 is going to make that huge of a difference.
If you want to guarantee this year doesn't happen again, the path to doing that is simply completely mortgaging the future. Moving some combination of Casey, Holtz, Mercer, upcoming 1sts, and our B tier of prospects to acquire a true #1 Goalie, a minutes eating LHD, a true 2nd/3rd line center that can move Haula down the lineup. Another 2nd/3rd line winger that can push Palat down the lineup as well. Get somebody to retain on someone and then fill the bottom six with new depth. Nail the coaching hire, hope Dougie comes back as his old self, hope Nemec is ready to shoulder a heavy defensive load and Jack recovers fine in the offseason. We have the trade chips and cap space to go out there and fill every hole in the short term.
Not saying that is what I would do, but if Fitz thinks his job is on the line he might be inclined to swing for the fences and figure out restocking the pipeline/fixing the cap implications later.
I don't think that is fair to Tkachuk. So much toxicity and dumb moves in Ottawa for years.
Brady has 96 (67 ES) goals and 365 PIM in the last 3 years.Brady is not a more valuable piece than Bratt when it comes to winning hockey games. they’re similarly valuable, just shaped differently.
If you think that trade is worth making because you prefer the style, that’s ok, but I don’t think trading a quarter for a quarter makes a ton of sense when one of them is a popular member of the team.
Now if I could trade assets for tkachuk and get them to take Palat as part of the deal…
I think it's more that he's 6'4'' 220 lbs, willing to fight, has scored 30 goals in each of the last 3 seasons on a bad team....than his last name
Last year Bratt had 5 goals 13 points from game 70 to game 82. Not to mention Bratt has been mostly very good during that timeframe this year where he hasn’t been able to buy a goal. It would probably help if our franchise player wasn’t awful and didn’t sabotage every PP with his brother. Can Tkachuck score down the stretch? Bratts got 2 goals in his last 20 game, 8 since Jan 1.

This actually makes feel better about him....Anti garbage time playerLast year Bratt had 5 goals 13 points from game 70 to game 82.
But saying if his last name was differentI said he was mildly interesting - it's just he is overrated due to his last name, people are making up playoff runs in his defense in this thread alone.
If he was Brady Smith we wouldn't have these needless comparison to his brother, who is significantly better in every regard.
Disclaimer: I love Bratt and don't want him traded for anyone, love Nico and think he should remain the Captain, I have faith this team will bounce back from this year with some minor tweaks. All that out of the way.....Brady Tkachuk has never even been to the playoffs, and is currently captaining the one of biggest disappointments in the NHL.
Brady shoots the puck an awful lot. We have a bulk shooter that makes 8+ million dollars already. I guess 2 if you include a healthy Jack too. He’s very good but would he really fit on the team? What happens to his production when he’s not shooting the puck 350 times a year? But saying if his last name was different
It sounds like you you don't see his specific value... especially to our team needs

That bolded has stones and glass house written all over it.
I was basically just throwing a grenade into this silly discussion.Last year Bratt had 5 goals 13 points from game 70 to game 82. Brady has been on teams that are a next level of ass that play no games of any consequence down the stretch, so who knows?
But saying if his last name was different

If the argument is that we need him for his leadership, attitude, and playoff ability - then it's absolutely fair game to criticize his current team's performance under his leadership.I don't think that is fair to Tkachuk. So much toxicity and dumb moves in Ottawa for years.
