This is what will piss me off to no end IF we lose out on Meier .( We are getting him so it’s a moot point but in the very very very unlikely , minuscule chance ….)

If the eventual cost of Meier is not ridiculous , I will lose my shit on Fitz for being too conservative (notice my correct usage of “too” vs “to” ).

I say go for it and if your NJ , offer what is needed to get a deal done .

Well, you got ONE right. :D

So he'll be traded for Drysdale in about 5 years time.:laugh:
Now you've gone too far.

What if SJ insisted on Mercer for an 'NHL ready' package?

Mercer, Bahl, Foote. +Maybe some pick

So no Holtz and no 1st.

Bahl and Foote, whatever. Mercer is the sticking point here.

If NHL ready is the criteria, I'd honestly rather put Shara in there, so Shara + Bahl + Foote.

I don't think San Jose would go for that though.

All the more reason to go ALL IN (short of Mercer) on Meier. f*** it I'll do 1st, Holtz, Yegor, Muk if it means we secure Meier and avoid Boeser.

I don't see how the Devils could fit in Boeser without a decent amount of changes on the main roster and Boeser isn't the type of player to do that for, anyway. I doubt Vancouver will retain for 2 more seasons after this one (or the Devils to pay the price for that) to avoid the roster reconstruction. If anything Boeser would seem like an offseason target if they actually do like him.

Also what he wrote there doesn't make it seem like Boeser is Plan B or anything, fourth period is just connecting available top 6 wings.

What good is our high powered analytics department if our Plan B is freaking Brock Boeser lol

Out of all the other "top 6" names actually thrown around for the deadline there is no plan b for me lol. It's Meier or bust. Don't want any of the other junk and would rather keep the assets. Guys like Reinhart or Konecny would be the guys I want but I don't know if they're getting moved.

11. I wouldn’t say New Jersey is the team to beat on Timo Meier, but it’s clear teams know the Devils are very much in it. The biggest balancing act for them might be their salary structure. It sounds like they prefer to have no forwards above Jack Hughes’ $8M AAV — or at least not blowing that out of the water. That’s not only a consideration for Meier, but also Jesper Bratt.

They really need not to act like this, but hopefully not blowing out of the water is still somewhere in the late 8's or 9s. Cant be losing out on Bratt and Meier because you don't want to pay league min (750k) to a depth piece (1.5) above Jack's AAV.

Yea agreed. Would rather at worst Duclair (if he’s functional) over Boeser.

Exactly. They aren't retaining for 3 years and we can't send nearly 7 million back in a trade that makes any sense for us.

No thanks to Boeser. Especially at $6.7M.

Meier or bust. And just because we don't get him at the deadline doesn't mean there still won't be the possibility to get him this summer.

I mean they can kiss long term contention goodbye and waste Jack's deal if that's how they're thinking. They better not be absolute f***ing morons here. Just f***ing pay them.

If we don't get Meier, I'd be happy to sit still.

Actually, I'd be open to obtaining a shutdown D for insurance if it came on the cheap.

I actually wouldn't have HATED having Horvat as a Plan B if he had stayed on the market, only cause our 3rd line has been pretty bad, and Horvat centering Mercer/Shara/Tatar/Haula/etc would have made us pretty dangerous, but I wasn't willing to pay the price, and I'm CERTAINLY wouldn't be ready to pay what it will cost to re-sign him.

To be fair, I'm sure most GMs would "prefer" not to pay anybody more than their star player. That's not the same as stubbornly setting a hard line that you refuse to budge on. I hope Fitz isn't that inflexible.

Again I don't get why this is a thing among fans and writers when the Devils were clearly in on Johnny Blue Jacket 'this' offseason, and he sure wasn't going to get paid less than Jack.

I'm sure things are different with a guy coming off a 115 pt year.

Yeah I'm hoping 'prefer' and 'not blowing out of the water' are strong terms here. They probably offered 9+ to Gaudreau so hoping that shows they are flexible about it. Even if Bratt and Meier both got 9, it would be hard to see how that $2 mil combined will hold the Devils back versus not having those two on the team.

It most likely isn't true based off that and Dougie. I'm sure he'd prefer it, as most GM's would. It doesn't mean anything though.
