Not sure I'd call a 6.65 million cap hit for 2 years after this one a "buy low" candidate.
He was not too long ago a top line winger that would have fetched a fortune on the trade market prior to the last two seasons. Compared to what his value once was it certainly is at an all time low.

The guy has also an insanely rough year and a half with the passing off his father which he's been really public with, a move closer back home (he's from Minny) could revitalize him. Plus he'd basically a cherrypicking merchant off of Hughes but I'm still super weary of him.

What good is our high powered analytics department if our Plan B is freaking Brock Boeser lol

It's probably someone like Henrique or Reinhart, I doubt Boeser is option 2 behind Meier.

He's definitely far from the perfect option but it just seems a little crazy to me that many on here would be perfectly fine with paying a more than decent price for Adam Henrique who is currently at $5.825M on the cap, will turn 33 years old this week and who was waived two years ago but the idea of taking a chance on Boeser, who's 25 and was a no doubt top 6 winger between 20-23 is not even worth a discussion.

I think I get what @Bleedred is complaining about, OT in some form has always existed. (Well I don’t know about the very early NHL lol.)

I think technically Shoot-Outs are the fake wins?

I do get confused at what exactly I’m supposed to shake my cane at with this issue.
Never thought I'd concur with @Bleedred (and appreciate the success the team has had to this point) but I too find both OT AND shootout wins less substantial than regulation wins.

The NHL treating those the same as regulation wins in terms of points seems like a travesty.

I think it’s less of a keeping Hughes happy and more of let’s maximize the opportunity and salary cap to build a competitive team that stays competitive for awhile.

Which is a nice theory but something that shouldn’t be expected to work in reality. Good luck getting guys like Meier/Bratt to sign for that when they see worse players signing for more. If that’s the plan you won’t end up competitive. Hopefully the leeway is around a mil

0-1-5 just makes it sound worse than it is, the guy is pretty much lumping 3-on-3 in as a fake win too, but it’s also unfair to treat that as a ‘tie’ when actual ties had five minutes of OT before.

Besides everyone is playing by the same rules, other teams have plenty of non regulation wins by that standard too.

I mean I get it if you’re looking at it from a playoff perspective. 3v3 wins are fake wins. No one knows know a 5v5 OT would play out

As an extreme buy low candidate that's still relatively young I don't think it's a bad idea.
I mean I guess if its a salary dump price. But the AAV for multiple years, the decline in shot generation and the overall footspeed/defensive issues make me want to try and spend the money elsewhere if we strike out on the big dogs

Rather buy low on a guy like Duclair.

I mean if they’d pay us to take him and retain some (they won’t) then fine. Otherwise look elsewhere or do nothing

Sure but be consistent, use that barometer for everyone or nobody at all, don't just use it on one team to mealy-mouth their record. They'd be surprised how many teams have six-game regulation winless streaks.

I mean it was specifically posted on the Devils video. Also it’s the record coupled with poor play

If you decide that no one is allowed to make more than Jack Hughes then you're going to watch a *lot* of talent walk out that door for nothing over the next decade.

Quite frankly Jack was an idiot for signing long term and not taking a bridge deal. His market value right now would easily be in the 11-12M range and it's going to continue to climb. Nico would probably get somewhere in the 10M range given how people value centers.

MacKinnon signed his RFA deal at 6.3M, and since then COL has signed 3 more players to a higher AAV than he was making. His third contract kicks in next year at 12.6M. Jack's 3rd contract will likely be much bigger than that consider how the cap is going to supernova in the next 5 years.

Obviously you want the best deal possible for the team, but good players deserve to get paid and Bratt is not replaceable. If he wants 9M then shut up and give him 9M and figure out the rest. I can't believe people are still clutching their pearls over this guy, he is an elite homegrown winger.

Who says they want him to take below market value? All signs are pointing to Fitz wanting to see one more year before throwing big money at him, which he's now seeing. For all we know, Bratt is the one being unreasonable and asking 9.5.

I'm fairly confident this gets done.
More likely his agent is the one being unreasonable and asking 9.5, and Fitz telling him to "Know his role and shut his mouth".

I highly highly doubt he was asking for 9.5
I doubt he did too, but there’s a lot of talking and speculating in absolutes one way or the other when we don’t know what truly happened.

You posted a tweet/report from Julie Robenhymer the other day that’s basically a middle ground and probably much more aligned with what truly happened: Fitz offered a little under 8 to Bratt on a long-term deal. Bratt wanted more than that and Fitz wanted to see more than one PPG season before making that kind of commitment.

This doesn’t sound like a negative to me. I expect a deal to get done.
