Bratt's skating was an obvious strength when he first suited up for the Devil's in 2017 in the Traverse City prospect game and that continued into the preseason.

Mercer would've been a top 10 pick with Bratt's natural skating ability...maybe higher.

My personal opinion is players can't improve their skating all that much. That's not to say they can't improve...but I personally have never seen a slower guy become a fast guy...I see it more that a player can improve a couple of levels...so a "5" could become a "7" but they'll never be a "9" or "10".... someone like McDavid or Scott Niedermeyer is just born with a natural gift.

Mercer's only knock in his draft year was his skating... it's not a hindrance but he'll never be as quick and shifty as Bratt.

2nd year players can improve their all-around game, including his skating. He’ll never be Mc David, but as he gets stronger he can get better. Their two different types of players. One is speed and skill, yet he’s more of a perimeter player. While Mercer is grittier and will go to the net and score dirty goals. While Bratt is better, Mercer is the type of player you need. Can’t have all skilled players. Plus the guy can play the middle as well as the wing. It’s to bad he isn’t a bit bigger.

I’m going to go ahead and say it: I wouldn’t mind Max Domi if the price is right. I hate him and his dad…but this team can absolutely use a puke like him, and he’s always been able to produce at a respectable level too.
I hear you, really all depends on cost. I don't think he would hurt us in the bottom 6 and is producing well this season in Chicago despite their garbage roster.

He's a POS, but sadly he's an upgrade on some of our bottom 6 anchors.

I mean, it's said somewhere above, but last night, Carolina just came back from 3 down and won in OT. They've been on OT a lot, and a lot lately, and it contributed to their first big heater and current heater. They have been on a similar trajectory this season actually.

Novo even suggested this might be someone NJ targets in his article today (below).

I don't know what would be worse - seeing a Domi or Matteau on the back of a Devils jersey...but in Fitz I trust.

Is Domi even that physical? I don’t think he’s what they need, but I tend to agree with Smith’s premise. I think this team needs more physicality up front.

What’s even worse is that we should have forfeited that pick because of the Kovy saga. Instead we ended up with John Quenneville at 30 in the ‘14 draft when we could have had a shot at a pick in the 10-15 range.

We made some horrific picks in that era. The "family lineage" picks are some of the worst. Of course our very first ever draft pick was one of those, the awful Rocky Trottier. Passing on Michel Petit, Dave Andreychuk, Tomas Sandstrom, and more... wow.

When it was clear that Lou was keeping that pick and deferring the penalty to the next year, it was so baffling that I was SURE Lou had some crazy intricate plan to pull something out of his ass. But nope, it was as bad as it looked, and with hindsight, even worse than that. Just an unforgivable move. That really marked the beginning of the end for Lou.
