I remember when my kitchen had a 13 inch black/white TV with rabitt ears, and our landline phone had a cord that was about 15 feet long.

BUT - I just out drank this 30 year old from Toronto suburbs while on vacation. My man muscle is in my belly.
Oh my goodness. I had a flashback to my childhood with Batman on channel 5 playing on the small black and white while I did my homework at the kitchen table....the 15 feet long telephone cord started out at about 6 feet and the coils got stretched to make it 15 feet.

I think it’s less of a keeping Hughes happy and more of let’s maximize the opportunity and salary cap to build a competitive team that stays competitive for awhile.

You know how you take advantage of having the next MacK/Barkov/Draisailt contract? Paying other guys maybe what they're worth slightly more who are elite as well to keep said roster intact while Hughes is in his prime.

I mean I get it if you’re looking at it from a playoff perspective. 3v3 wins are fake wins. No one knows know a 5v5 OT would play out

Who cares, this was the same argument made with 2011-2012 NJ when they had like 12 shootout wins and they made the final. We're built for that format so I don't know why our record should be a shock to people.

That argument was right insofar as the first half Devils in 2011-2012 were just not a good team, but adding Ponikarovsky and Zajac and not dressing the goons made it a four-line team, at least up until the Finals. This team is much different, the only guy out with injury right now is Marino; they should be doing better, though there is some evidence that it is the bottom of the roster dragging things down.

I mean that wasn't the original point but the 11-12 Devils were 27-19-3 at the break which was 8 points behind the Rangers who won the conference that year. My overall point was that you can't say a certain team is bad or good due to how the NHL decides to break ties and hold it against them. We've literally missed the playoffs because we were bad at the shootout. If a team is bad at 3v3 then it's an indictment on their roster and not being up to par with today's NHL. You need to built through speed in today's NHL anyway.

See, he already has his foot out the door! Trade him Fitz!

:sarcasm:
Doesn’t travel with his teammates? That can’t be good for the room and team chemistry. Y’all want to drop 8.5 mil on a locker room cancer? :sarcasm:

Right, and my point is that that record was wildly inflated by being 11-3 in games decided in OT - this makes their regulation record 16-19-14, which isn't good. Had that been the team the Devils went into the playoffs with, they would've been in deep trouble. The rest of the way they were 5-3 in OT/SO and 16-12-8 overall which is much better.

All this talk of discounting overtime wins would make a lot more sense if the Devils weren't one of the best teams in the league at 5v5.

Not sure if this has already been shared here. Nothing groundbreaking but still a good read.

“I’ve always appreciated the older guys as soon as I came into the league. When I was in Boston, there were a lot of guys who helped me in those three years there,” said Hamilton, who played alongside the likes of Zdeno Chara and Patrice Bergeron while in Boston. “When I was with Calgary and Carolina, it was the same thing. I looked up to those guys. You’re watching and following what they do. Surprisingly, I guess, being on the other side of it now, I’m working as hard as I can to be the person I looked up to. It’s kind of shocking that I’m on the other side of it already, but the guys on our team are doing really, really well, so it’s not like you really have to do anything for them.”

Haula is also vacationing in that spot that Tatar and company are at.

Bratt is vacationing alone with his girlfriend!? I'm shocked there isn't mass hysteria here that he isn't with his teammates.

That's enough Tatar for today

Never enough Tatar.

I’m going to go ahead and say it: I wouldn’t mind Max Domi if the price is right. I hate him and his dad…but this team can absolutely use a puke like him, and he’s always been able to produce at a respectable level too.

Love Dougie. Seems like a great guy and a good leader.

Posters keeping track of where players are vacationing and the "Friedmanettes" discussing a ridiculous "report" that the Devils do not want to pay forward more than Jack. Only 5 days 8 hours and 25 minutes until the Canuicks game - but who is counting?

You were obviously rich. We couldn't afford a tv in the kitchen.
