Not for nothing but the next time Rybo makes an appearance, I'm going to just repost that vid of Bratt skating without saying anything.

Bratt himself provides the "skating" answer way better than I could.

Not saying
I like Mercer. He's got skill and can skate well.

But to die on a hill that is believing he's anything CLOSE to what Jesper Bratt is as a player is a bit much.

....okay...it's a whole LOT of much, actually.

Not saying Mercer is better. However, they’re two different types of players. Also, it’s only Mercer’s 2nd year. So to say Mercer isn’t anything close to Bratt is a bit of an overstatement. I believe both are important to the team’s future.

Proabably not but being a RD always adds some value

Mattias Havelid is a 5’10 RD that they picked the spot before we picked Casey. I don’t think they’re going to be valuing Casey super highly and if a team isn’t super high on Casey and sees him as a centerpiece to a move then I’m not moving him.

Ah fair enough

I was going to take the week off from NHL hockey but then Horvat was traded and the amount of negativity from Devils fans on social media and the blogosphere really concerned me.

Look, I understand that many NJ fans are frustrated after a tough decade, to say the least. But the prevailing negativity among Devils fans to current management is very concerning to me. It wasn't so many months ago that Tom Fitzgerald enjoyed an absolutely outstanding off-season -- addressing three major needs with Marino, Vanecek and Palat while giving up absolutely nothing of value -- and Devils fans were calling for his head. The fact that Fitzgerald wasn't willing to mortgage the team's long-term future for a big name who didn't fill a major organizational need was a strength of the Devils off-season, not a weakness.

It's now just January and the Devils have the third best record in the entire NHL, a top-three prospect pool in the entire NHL, the brightest young star in the NHL in Jack Hughes -- who is barely legal to drink and a legit MVP candidate already, and one of the youngest and most exciting teams in the NHL.

And yet, many fans are beside themselves because the Islanders got Bo Horvat?

Your problem is that you're on twitter.

If I were you, I'd keep your social media to this place. Sad as it is, ti's the sanest place for hockey talk.

He was more consistent and productive than Bratt in his first year. He is very close to Bratt`s second year production.

I think it would be really hard for Mercer to play on actual Bratt`s level, but FOR NOW we at least have a right to say that Mercer is a kind of guy who can be good enough to make an impact. There is no "much". For Mercer - it`s ok to talk that he can hit this ceiling. Because I think ceiling of Bratt is 1 ppg player, may be he will hit more in some seasons, but it is what it is for now. He hitted it and playing now on it. Mercer isn`t playing on his ceiling. May be he will hit only 60 points - possible is there. But his maximum ceiling is 70-75 points, especially as a regular top-6 player. He has two more seasons for developing his game to start the talk about how he CAN`T be Jesper Bratt`s level player. I know, metrics, yada yada, Jesper Bratt is advenced darling, but he can produce 1ppg. And we can exactly understand why it didn`t translate in something more. Mercer is different player with other prons and cons, but he has offensive tools and time to develop his tools. So, please, let`s not pencil out Mercer. It would be smart. Bratt is great, I want sign him long term, but he isn`t holy cow(we have only one, may be only two), and if we want another good player, we should think why we can and can not trade one or another guy. And Mercer is pretty close to be untouchable.

From Jersey w/ Love
Hey, your old. Shouldn’t you just be glad you actually woke up from the nap?

I remember when my kitchen had a 13 inch black/white TV with rabitt ears, and our landline phone had a cord that was about 15 feet long.

BUT - I just out drank this 30 year old from Toronto suburbs while on vacation. My man muscle is in my belly.

Don’t mind me. Just acknowledging the proper spelling of these two words.

Jesper Bratts skating improved the most when he was skating in the offseason with our then-Newly drafted Prospect Holtz

That offseason he came in faster stronger and better in every area of his skating

Players cant improve their skating between 21-24? Lmfao right, sure thing boss
Bratt's skating was an obvious strength when he first suited up for the Devil's in 2017 in the Traverse City prospect game and that continued into the preseason.

Mercer would've been a top 10 pick with Bratt's natural skating ability...maybe higher.

My personal opinion is players can't improve their skating all that much. That's not to say they can't improve...but I personally have never seen a slower guy become a fast guy...I see it more that a player can improve a couple of levels...so a "5" could become a "7" but they'll never be a "9" or "10".... someone like McDavid or Scott Niedermeyer is just born with a natural gift.

Mercer's only knock in his draft year was his skating... it's not a hindrance but he'll never be as quick and shifty as Bratt.

His inability to speak English has held him back.

I feel like there's only a couple serial offenders on here. It's just noticable when it happens.

I think "to" and "too" get misused more here. And resign vs. re-sign, but that's a bit more understandable since it's not not used much outside of sports.

I find some of it can be explained by auto correct.
