You don't know what you're talking about. It isn't about time to negotiate, it's about the fact that the season is over and just about everyone has cap room - the market opens up to just about every team, whereas in the playoff race, it's going to be just a few teams.

He's pretty cheap though, and with 50% retained any team could fit him somehow. I think the only reason not to trade for him at the deadline is if you're truly terrible and trying to tank for bedard. For most of the teams I'd say his value is definitely higher at the deadline than at next summer.

They have the cap space now. The contract doesn’t start until next season. Do they really need Bratt to have another bug season to pay him? Have they not scouted their own player for his entire career? But now they will be convinced? Something is off but it’s unclear if it’s the team or Bratt or his agent.
Prior to signing Palat and acquiring Marino they had cap space. But afterwards they didnt.

Next offseason they will have cap space again. Hopefully Fitz kicking that can down the road is merely a “you have time, use it” situation.

I think it’s all about timing…. And acceptance on Bratts end

Circumstances this year are….
-The devils could only offer so much cap space
-The devils only had to offer so much this year, considering two years of RFA status and only one year of real production.
-Arbitration wasn’t going to solve any of those issues
-there was no way he could force his way into the contract he wanted

Circumstances next year are….
- we will have the room to offer 8m+ long term
- with only one year of RFA left, it’ll put Bratts leverage in his favor for the real deal he wants
- one more year of production to judge actual worth
- one more year of team growth for Bratt to gauge his interest in staying long term.

He may have turned down something around $40m this year, to hopefully get closer to $70m next year. I could see him caring about that number, more then which team gives it him.

By not pushing thru to arbitration, I believe he does have some level for acceptance of these circumstances, and he’s incentivized to have a great year and earn the contract he wants, which fitz hopefully has laid out for him.

I know it would never happen but after watching the World Juniors I wish we could get Faber some how. Though the only way it would make sense is if Nemec went the other way which would be...Bleh.

These could be fun. Home/Away shoulders are bigger, but otherwise looks like the og cup winning jerseys. And I like the "Jersey-jersey" influenced 'drop shadow' in the alternate.

There still isn't any reason to believe he wants to play somewhere. Just that he has a number and it's been too high for Fitz.

They will have the cap space next offseason. They need to just pay him
Any Bratt trade we are almost certainly going to lose. They are far better off trying to get some winning done this season and back the brinks truck up next offseason.
Well, the fact that he didn't sign long-term is at least a sign that it may be a possibility. It could be money, it could be him wanting to play somewhere else, we don't really know. At any rate, it's not as simple as you make it to be because they can't just give in to his demands like Dubas did with first Nylander, which then led to sub-optimal signings of Marner and Matthews. If Bratt demands something crazy (like 10Mx8) it's better to lose a trade.
