Keep in mind that in that above scenario, you then have to sign the following in 2023:

Sharangovich, McLeod, Bastian, Severson, Graves, Siegenthaler, Ty Smith, and Blackwood and you'd only have what, $25 million to do that?
Half those guys are disposable .
Shara - keep , but if we have Holtz and Slafkovsky makig strides..
McLeod - replace with ELC or cheap veteran
Bastain - see McLeod
Severson - try to extend when first able to. If he wants too much , bu-bye
Seigs - keep
Smith - sooner he is traded the better
Blackwood - might just let him walk if he is not starter material

Fiala+Puljujarvi/Mikheyev up front with Kuemper/Campbell in net and some 3RD with Zacha and Johnsson going out would be a very successful offseason to be.
I feel the same way.
Moving Johnson , Zacha , Tatar(doubtful) , Smith would be ideal.
Dont need them and make some cap room .

Draft Slaf , sign a RHD like Lybushkin , Trade for Puljujarvi , sign one or more of Marchment , Neiderrieder . Call it a day

For goaltending….. no clue. No one out there that makes me feel all warm and fuzzy . Hopefully there is someone out there that we don’t know was available that we end up getting.

Yes it would be “fun” to add a player like Gaudreau or Fiala but I just don’t think them amd their contracts are good fits.

He traded away Holtz and the 2nd.

I feel like Mercer is so underrated if he’s even being thought of by anyone of knowledge to include in a trade for Fiala. Mercer is/is going to be a beast.

I assume it’s the opposite and they know we wouldn’t trade Mercer for Fiala.

I’m sure they would love Mercer, you don’t get center who’s already established himself in the NHL.

The 2OA is a bit ridiculous too if listed, but they can give picks back (theoretically, I don’t see it).

The argument for Holtz is uncertainty and impatience.

I think Fiala’s trade value takes a real hit because he wants a lot of money and is likely getting a shorter deal. I’m real curious what he ends up getting. (And then we wouldn’t have to hear about it anymore, which is a bonus.)

That and finally seeing what Vancouver does after this ridiculous amount of chatter for months and months.

It would be pretty amusing if Vancouver made no moves at the draft and then it was back to the rumor mill with every Canucks player again lol

Mercer should be on the "untouchable" list.

My Untouchables would be HughesX2, Bratt, Mercer, 2022 #2 overall. That's it.
It would require a MASSIVE overpayment for me to move Nico as well.

I really wish the NJ.com articles weren't behind a paywall. The Athletic should just hire him because I already begrudgingly pay for that although I won't if we don't get something better.

Meh...we traded a 24 year old Kirk Muller we can trade a 24 year old Nico Hischier.

You can all you want but it’s dumb. Nico is much more valuable than Mercer as of right now.
As of right now? Who cares about right now when you are are bottom 5 team?

You have to make projections from a team building perspective right now. And this team as of right now, we suck.

What? His value is about more than right now.
He’s obviously easily the better player right now but it’s also about the future and going forward.

Not even sure what kind of point you’re trying to make.

The as of right now part was only to indicate that things could change which they always can. I wouldn’t bet on Mercer being more valuable 2 years from now though.
But if Nico starts shitting the bed and Mercer breaks out Mercer will be more valuable.

But as of right now Nico is more valuable and it’s weird to be calling Mercer untouchable but saying meh about moving Nico. It’s also weird coming from someone who’s always downplaying and complaining about being excited about and relying on the projections of young players.

Mercer is absolutely untouchable he’s 20 years old 42 point center who can play wing in the top 6 already. Although, he does look better playing wing imho.

In theory, I would not trade 2 overall and roll with a forward core of Hughes, hischier, mercer,Bratt, sharangovich, slaf and holtz which on paper looks pretty good if all hit there projected value

I think Jim’s theory is that mercer can fill hischier’s roll and the return for hischier could fill out the team better

Jim hates Nico, it's ok.

I don’t disagree although I don’t think anyone is necessarily untouchable. Maybe Hughes and that’s it. But in terms of the core pieces that we don’t trade unless we’re blown away, Mercer is definitely part of that.

It’s simple. Jim despises Nico.
