okay...let's get back into what was being discussed before.

I would love Johnny Hockey here but he'll command quite a price-tag, though.

And I'm talking about ONLY Johnny Hockey.

Thoughts?

We are done talking about the Bratt Pack guy. Bratt's contract will be done when it's done. That's it

Dude tweeted after saying he "Doubt it would involve any of these picks (each team's 1st rounders) but you never know."

lol. He's probably making this all up. Maybe he's been told something, but it's most likely BS.

I'm prob the only one, but I wouldn't mind getting 6 + 12 if it meant getting some other good pieces back. Just a swap with 2 for 6 + 12 though, no thanks. Doesn't make any sense. Maybe if Slaf gets picked #1.

Well i was trying to dig down to your point of the "better" team winning. Or whatever word you used.

I'm guessing you are saying the team that plays better in that specific series typically wins. But I wonder how we factor goaltending and finishing ability into that. Carolina for instance were meh on both fronts, though one could say they outplayed the Rag's(shooting from the hip here a bit, didn't super closely follow the series).
Let me clarify this. I think in the late-stages of the playoffs - IE conference and stanley cup finals - if it's relatively clear that one team is more talented (both on paper and actual results through the playoffs), most of the time that team is the one that wins out the series. Using 2012 as an example, the kings were 12-3 heading into the final and routinely outplayed their opponents in the playoffs (in all aspects including what you mentioned with goaltending and finishing ability) - a much more impressive showing than what the Devils had done through the first three rounds - and the Kings also had more individual talent on paper than the Devils. Looking at it with the least bias possible, the team with more talent and better results up to that point in the tournament won. And that's how it usually goes. By the time the last couple of rounds of the playoffs come around, if a team was making a type run that doesn't jive with their talent level and on-ice performance, it catches up to them. See the Rangers, 2022. Montreal 2021. Coyotes 2012. Plenty of examples.

This doesn't apply as well to the early rounds because it's still a small sample size with a higher likelihood of variation. It also doesn't apply that well when it's two teams who are extremely evenly matched based on longer sample sizes and individual talent.

I'd start Campbell over both Blackwood and Husso, tbh.

So I take it you're not all that impressed by Wright then. ;)

Yes and no. I'm not convinced he's what people are pumping him up to be. I am very very high on Gauthier and McGroarty. Another guy I'm high on is Chesley.

Any combination of Gauthier/Nemec/Jiricek at #6 and McGroarty/Chesley at #12. I'd consider it if Slaf got picked #1.

I'd start Campbell over both Blackwood and Husso, tbh.

Isn't Campbell another pretty injury-prone goalie?

Two things that are really BOTHERING me lately, which will be no surprise to anyone who just knows me from here.

I'm seeing all these articles from different sites. ''5 options the Devils have at goalie this summer'' and ''Analyzing 5 ways a Gibson trade can work for the Devils''. And some of the options when I click are just BRUTAL. Kevin Lankinen, among a bunch of other GARBAGE goalies that we shouldn't be touching, who are more than likely not even an upgrade over the decrepit last 55 games of Blackwood or very marginally an upgrade.

And the Gibson thing is really just nonsense at this point. We shouldn't be touching him and really the Leafs shouldn't be going near him either.

I can't believe the cap pressed Leafs would let Campbell go, but TRADE to get Gibson, who is paid almost $1.5 million more than what Campbell is rumored to want and already has more term left than what you'd likely have to give Campbell.

A few Leafs fans on the mainboard are even interested in Blackwood because his cap hit is under $3 million.

I can't really see Dubas acquiring Gibson, or else he's DEFINITELY about to be fired really soon. I think it's more fan speculation than anything else.

And they definitely shouldn't be taking Gibson without giving up MraSUCK.

Maybe it's just a case of "grass is always greener on the other side" view?

Or more likely those who want those goaltenders haven't been paying attention...

i think we already knew that when the assistants got sacked. ruff isn’t the best, but he’s not the worst. let’s see how he can do with league average goaltending
I know but I was praying in the back of my mind that Ruff would be assigned another role & we bring in a real head coach to take this team to the next level. My whole problem is that this is Ruffs last year because his contract ends. It's better to just rip the bandaid off now & hire a coach while there's plenty of good ones available. Next year we got no clue who will be around. But with Cassidy & Torts just being signed (the 2 coaches I really wanted) there's only a few names left like Trotz (who won't sign with us) or Pete Deboer (who isn't my ideal option). If Ruff has a bad start next season he will have to be fired mid season & by that point whoever we hire will be the leftover scraps which is horrible. Our next coach needs to be the one to level the team up. The one to take us to the promised land. It just spells disaster. If we hire a guy mid season it will either be a promotion from within or a random hire (both of which would probably be relieved of duties by year end). Fitz job hangs in the balance of whoever the next coach is.

Just lately?
Well it's only been lately that there's the constant speculation of all these shit and nobody goalies to the Devils. And the John Gibson popularity has really ramped up the last month or two. I mean, I guess he was popular a few years back, but that was for good reason. Even I said he was one of the best goalies in the league back then.

But 3 years is a VERY long time and his play over the last 3 has been monumentally poor.
