I could have sworn Fitz mentioned in the Timo call, I believe, that some of the RFA's qualifying offers might be a bit higher than they'd like so it might open discussions there. It's not the exact verbiage of how he expressed it, but I recall him making mention of that.
Arbitration cases is what he’s worried about. Not qualifying offers.

If they take the Devils to arbitration, their reward might be more than the Devils are willing to pay on a one year deal. Also gives them leverage over the Devils with a future award.

Thank you for correcting me, I was trying to find a tweet from one of the media members but couldn't find any.

Foote-Boqvist-Clarke 4th line next yr.

Bratt-Jack-Toffoli
Meier-Nico-Mercer
Palat-Haula-Holtz
Foote-Boqvist-Clarke

More than fine with letting McLeod go. Nate needs to stay. Also would want a different 4C and Boqvist 4LW unless Foote outplays him.

Hypothetical question here

If we re-sign McLeod, but then it comes out later this offseason that he was involved in the 2018 scandal, we can't just terminate his contract can we? I mean he's still on our books for 2 or 3 years (assuming we signed him first) even if we expunge him from the organization?

I feel like he'd be permanently suspended by the NHL, which would mean his cap hit didn't count.

You can't let Bastian hit UFA

Very confused. Their QOs are peanuts. Is this just a tactic from Fitz?

I'd imagine McLeod would easily get more as a UFA than we would give him.

Price of success. It was the best 4th line in hockey with a decent margin.

I would think McLeod is the obvious priority, since there is no way to replace his faceoff skills.

Eh, guaranteed contracts are pretty guaranteed and I don’t know what exactly the NHL/teams can and cannot do with suspensions.

A report is supposedly dropping in July so that could hold up any deal for McLeod.

The other forwards could be in negotiations for cheap 2 year deals, often that works. Or just let go if they ended up having no trade value in this market.

I can’t believe we didn’t qualify at least Bahl. The silence is disconcerting lol.

It was reported already that we’re at least qualifying Bahl. Nothing should be done with McLeod until the report is out. It’s not even like he’s an important enough player that if it comes out he wasn’t involved you’re losing any sleep. He’s an average 4th liner

Bastian should be the priority. He’s far and away the best.
Why can't you look at them like a great tandem and make them both the priority. I know everyone loves to throw around the idea that you can just pick up random guys and shove them down there, but looking around the league at other teams, I wonder why no one every told some of them that.

We know what we have in them, it's gotta be easier to work something out with them than hoping for FA and then still needing to work something out.

I'd be shocked if McLeod and Bastian are not back. Even Boqvist would surprise me.

They shouldn't be too expensive and they are all useful players.
Boqvist is one of those guys, even though technically skill wise better(or at least potentially) than Nate and Mike, only brings to the table what we already have but just way less of. It would suck to see him move on and flourish somewhere else, but if we can't fit him, it wouldn't leave a hole like the other guys.

Hopefully we can get something done with McLeod & Bastian, but honestly I wouldn't overpay for either.

We're in such a formidable position as an obvious contender that there will no shortage of guys willing to take less money to come chase a cup as depth pieces.

There you go. You can budget $1 million max. for the 4th liners.

All three could be back, but the thing is low arbitration awards you can’t walk away from.
