I noticed that Slafkovsky was extremely noticeably missing from that list.

Has he already played too many NHL games to count? He's only played 39.

It looks like his stock has fallen quite a bit after last year, regardless of that.

  • Not be a full-time NHL player. This is the arbitrary section of the criteria. Here, I trust my judgment for whether or not a rostered NHL player is still likely to bounce between levels more than I trust any pre-determined games played before the cutoff. Preference for inclusion as an NHL prospect is more likely to be given to teenagers than, say, 22-year-olds.

He considers him an NHLer

both Wheeler and Pronman do good work, but once players "graduate" past their draft year, they aren't the best source of information. They simply don't have the time to watch all these players consistently after they are drafted and also do their jobs of writing about the upcoming prospects IMO.

I got the churro dog a few years back.....looks better than it tasted. Churro and donut were a bit stale.

Nemec has overtaken Jirecek, Clarke jumped Edvinsson, and Gauthier did the same with Wright.

There’s a new top 5 from the 2023 draft, the top four guys and Michkov.

Then (vs February ranking)
#6 Cooley (was #1)
#7 Hughes (was #2)
#8 Nemec (was #4)
#9 Jirecek (was #3)
#10 Clarke (was #6)
#11 Edvinsson (was #5)
(New 2023 player)
#13 Gauthier (was #11)
#14 Wright (was #7)

#34 Holtz (was #22) he was mainly bumped down by new 2023 adds, the only older draft picks who moved ahead of him:
#25 Kulich (was #26)

Also Wheeler has them in tiers, here’s what teams have prospects-wise. (This is the July list.)
1st Tier: 1:
CHI

2nd Tier: 2-7 (6 teams, 6 players):
PHI, CBJ, ANA, SJS, ARI, NJD

3rd Tier: 8-29 (15 teams, 22 players):
NJD, CBJ, LAK, DET, BUF (3), PHI, SEA, NYR, STL (2), CHI (3), NSH, WSH, MTL (2), DAL, ANA (2)

4th Tier: 30-50 (15 teams, 21 players):
MIN (3), DET (2), CBJ (2), ARI, NJD, SJS, CAR, WSH, SEA, CGY, PIT, WPG (3), NYR, EDM, CHI

HM (30 teams, 77 players. all teams listed below.):
ANA (4), ARI (4), BOS (1), BUF (2), CGY (4), CAR (3), CHI (0), COL (2), CBJ (3), DAL (2), DET (3), EDM (1), FLA (1), LAK (3), MIN (4), MTL (4), NSH (4), NJD (1), NYI (0), NYR (1), OTT (1), PHI (3), PIT (1), SJS (5), SEA (3), STL (4), TBL (2), TOR (1), VAN (3), VGK (2), WSH (3), WPG (2)

Good to see he still has Nemec above Jiricek, since it seemed Jiricek had the better AHL season and better WJC.
He hadnt.

Wheeler doesn't.

His writeup for Holtz is basically the same as it's been for years. I don't think he has the time to watch as much of drafted guys since he has to focus so much on the upcoming draft so he defaults to his prior opinions and production

I am pretty sure Wheeler just copy and pasted his write-up on Holtz from last year. I doubt he even watched him play this year.

I know someone who works in the arena business and she said Levy is basically the gold standard. I've also eaten their food at a couple arenas and can attest that they did a great job, albeit both times were in suites, so I haven't sampled their work for the masses or seen their prices. Definitely seemed like they used really fresh ingredients and put care into their work.

I feel bad saying this too, but I hope they do an entirely new round of staff hiring. There were definitely some staff under the prior vendor who cared, and I hope they get to stay on, but by and large it felt like most hated being there and wanted you to feel it through the food. Could also have just been the culture from the prior vendor.

I’m happy to hear that about the food.

I don’t agree about the staff, who haven’t been the problem at all and are generally pretty positive when I interact with them.

Wheeler is a writer, not a scout. His list is a clear case of new is better.
Ya, the top 5 being strictly top 5 from this year is a bit curious.

And sure I'm a Devils fan so I'm biased, but Hughes play post draft, including his short stint in the playoffs, should raise his stock, but instead he falls in the polls?

I guess there is an element of placating the readers who want shiny new things.
