It's so disheartening that this is always the sort of stuff that lawyers are involved with. All too often we deal with society's mess and even worse in certain situations lawyers believe what's best for a particular client is to make the mess worse.
Being the son, grandson and brother-in-law of attorneys, I've unfortunately seen plenty of that. There is an inherent moral conflict in criminal law particularly that I imagine is not easy to handle at times.

Assuming they keep 14F, Tierney would be solid for that 13/14ish spot. Could even battle for more time in the lineup. Still a decent player IMO, relatively speaking of course. and obviously that range of spots also hinges on the outcome of the WJC investigation.

Kovy TKO-ing Brayden Schenn on one punch following Zac Rinaldo's blatant attempt to injure Parise is still one of my favorite Devils memories. Pure gold.

My first thought was that he may be McLeod insurance. He was actually kind of like a better McLeod back when he was on the Sharks. He broke 30 points more often than not and even had a 40 point season with the Sharks and then a 48 point season with Ottawa after they traded him as part of the Erik Karlsson deal. He was actually better than McLeod at one point and he definitely scored goals at a much better rate than McLeod did. The fact that he's much better at goal scoring than McLeod pushed him over the 30 point barrier and even the 40 point barrier a couple of times. His last several years he's scored goals at almost a McLeodian rate.

He may even be a potential Miles Wood replacement as the 4th line LW.

He got a two way deal, but I'm pretty sure he'll be on the NHL team to start the season. He got claimed off waivers by Montreal from Florida the last time he was put on waivers last year.

He's better than any of the potential 4th line LW's that could potentially make the team. I'm not at all high on Tyce Thompson and think he has little to no chance at a full time NHL roster spot.

All this Kovy talk reminds me of this classic from his Thrashers days...

this was awesome also

The Oilers had asked the referees to check Kovalchuk’s stick. When it was found to have too much of a curve, thus making it illegal, he was penalized for two minutes.

After Kovalchuk came out of the penalty box with a new, flatter stick, it took him all of seven seconds to get even. He took a pass from Dany Heatley and scored, then rubbed it in as he passed the Edmonton bench.

“How do you like my stick now?” Kovalchuk, then 18 years old, bellowed.

The Oilers were not impressed.

Hypothetically:

McLeod is waived/released/terminated/suspended

10 minutes later the following gets released:

The NJ Devils were saddened to learn of the involvement of a former player in the 2018 Canadian WJC team scandal. The Devils organization believes any inappropriate gender misconduct is unacceptable (I'm skeptical they'd want to include the terms "sexual assault" or "rape" in a team press release) and have acted accordingly. Out of respect for the victim, the organization will have no further comment on the matter.

Something like that would make sense if they have to act. Hopefully McLeod isn't involved but we will see. At this point, there is so much rumor and innuendo that it is difficult to say anything about McLeod's involvement beyond knowing that he must be a person of interest to the investigation.

The poor girl will have to carry this with her the remainder of her life. I hope she gets counseling and therapy as needed to help her put this behind her. I hope she can maintain her anonymity.

I am also hopeful the league and investigating law enforcement will act appropriately. Presumably the league will suspend those involved immediately. With respect to criminal enforcement, the players involved should be treated like anyone else involved in this sort of crime. No leniency and no "making an example" either. Their status as hockey players should not play a role either way. The perpetrators should be sanctioned the way any private citizen without fame would be sanctioned. I'm not sure if that can happen at this point but that's for other people to decide.

I was going to respond that this sounds like you work law and then I remembered.... You do (or did). And someone else already cracked a joke in ..

For all the bullshit that came with Kovy, that whole era was magical.

The man was an absolute phenom.

Kids an aspiring lawyer. He’s got to graduate first before climbing that career ladder.

I almost fell out of my wheelchair and lost my adult diapers from laughing when you called me kid

Yeah, that's on the higher end for AHL salaries.

Often see that with veteran players that know there's a good chance they'll be playing most of the season in the AHL. The NHL salary is going to be league minimum regardless of where they go, so the AHL salary becomes the key in contract negotiations (as well as opportunity to possibly play with the big club).
Comets NHL 2-ways and their AHL contracts: (CapFrioendly numbers)
Wotherspoon $325K
Criscuolo $330K
Tierney $400K
Kallgren $450K
Downing 2 seasons at $500K each.

4 of these 5 players NHL salaries would be $775K
Wotherspoon would make $762,500K

The bonkers salary belongs to Thompson. He is on a 1-way meaning he gets his money no matter which league he's in. $762,500K!
He scored 7 goals last season making $175K, which was even over payment for that season. He scored 6 of those goals before Christmas. Only the rest of the season!
This season he will make BIG bucks playing in the AHL. There is no way he deserves an NHL spot ahead of any of Holtz, Clarke, or Foote. Hell Halonen scored 17 goals and he will make $80K playing for the Comets. Injustices do happen and this clearly is one of those instances.

I'd have a tough time facing these guys in Utica (if they are there) knowing the way I failed to earn the $$$ I'm making while they are still making ELC dollars after having had much better years than I had. I'd be buying a lot of dinners this season. LOL

People forget that Kovalchuk was a ridiculous juxtaposition of huge, fast and absolutely ripped while being -- in his heyday -- one of the best athletes on the planet earth. I think had he grown up in America instead of Russia, he might have been the best linebacker in the NFL. As a hockey fan, we were lucky to have him in the NHL, where he was probably one of the top 20 goal-scorers in league history. As a Devils fan, we were lucky to have him on the team, even for just a couple of years.

I don’t see how because taffolli is a right handed shot and the one timer option would be gone since Hughes is a left handed shot on the other half wall unless you flip those two.

I personally think Meier should be in the Bratt spot
I would not be opposed to Hughes on the right wall so he can be both a passing and shoot threat. Meier doesn't seem like a great playmaker so he might be limited from a playmaking standpoint, so perhaps you try him on the left side where Hughes has played.

With all due respect to @Rhodes 81 , he was absolutely wasted in Atlanta.

Imagine if he was on a contending team or even a bubble team.

That team would no longer be a bubble team.
