It never hurts to have depth at center.
I think we've still needed a 14th forward anyways, assuming these were the guys already penciled in.
Meier - Hischier - Mercer
Bratt - Hughes - Toffoli
Palat - Haula - Holtz
Foote - McLeod - Bastian
Lazar, XXX
He more than likely fills the last XXX for the forward group. I do agree, the timing is definitely interesting, but he still fills a hole we've yet to fill this offseason.
I've forgotten exactly what the distinction is between one-way deals and two-way deals. I know that one major difference is that his salary drops if he is sent down to the AHL.
But does this affect anything in terms of waiver requirements to be sent up or down?
There's Utica's 1C and McLeod insurance
Guess the plan is to let Clarke and Thompson battle it out for the last forward spot? Though Tierney could also make it interesting.

nope, that is just the EA Sports way of showing things. The only difference is the salary he'd make in the NHL vs the AHL. His AHL salary would be $400k which seems like its pretty damn high (though I don't know for sure)
I think Thompson stinks now
Poor kid has just battled too many injuries. Hopefully he has all summer to work on the details of his game and he shows up at camp 100%. He has shown enough in bursts when healthy to think he could be a fourth line forward. You'd think this is his last chance with NJ given his contract status although I'd expect Buffalo to give him a look if he washes out of NJ.Thompson is 24 years old and still can't crack the NHL consistently
chances are he is just a AAAA player for his career
you're right I was insanely wrong. Let me clarify, he scored 3 goals the previous season while playing 40 games. he was given a 25M contract and went on to play 56 games over the next two seasons and scored 8 goals. The contract was terrible. That's not defending the deal... it's saying someone was insanely inaccurate with their post.
Nobody would argue that. Nobody is arguing that.you're right I was insanely wrong. Let me clarify, he scored 3 goals the previous season while playing 40 games. he was given a 25M contract and went on to play 56 games over the next two seasons and scored 8 goals. The contract was terrible.
I like the signing of another center. don't know Tierney too well, but my guess is he starts in the AHL and gives us a good layer of depth.A 29 year old with almost 600 NHL games under his belt on a one year two-way deal? Yeah, nothing to complain about at all
You were the one that said it wasn't a bad signing. Time to move along.Good god dude, where do you get that I'm defending the contract?
I'm just correcting a wildly inaccurate statement/claim you made that he scored 3 goals in 2 seasons. He never scored 3 goals in 2 seasons.
We SHOULDN'T have signed him, but the fact that maybe the worst UFA contract in the history of the league was signed on the same day..... Maybe that takes some of the heat off of him. Not to mention he was signed to replace the guy that was signed to that worst UFA contract in the history of the league.
That contract was destined for LTIR from the start. Clarkson's really wasn't, though he ended up being not too far behind him on perma-LTIR island.

i agree!Don't think Tierny means anything for McLeod. Taking a 2-way deal almost certainly means he was only getting AHL centric offers so he probably figured it was better for his career to go somewhere where he's the first callup at center to a good team rather than somewhere he might squeeze out a spot on a bad team.
Hypothetically:Good God, I just woke up from a dream where I had to do a performance review on Michael McLeod and ranked him "need improvement".
I think I was reading that post about the announcement supposedly today (from the mainboard) and fell asleep shortly after right away.
I hope he is not implicated in that mess.... And if he is, how is team going to respond (or league)...
Hypothetically:
McLeod is waived/released/terminated/suspended
10 minutes later the following gets released:
The NJ Devils were saddened to learn of the involvement of a former player in the 2018 Canadian WJC team scandal. The Devils organization believes any inappropriate gender misconduct is unacceptable (I'm skeptical they'd want to include the terms "sexual assault" or "rape" in a team press release) and have acted accordingly. Out of respect for the victim, the organization will have no further comment on the matter.
Something like that would make sense if they have to act. Hopefully McLeod isn't involved but we will see. At this point, there is so much rumor and innuendo that it is difficult to say anything about McLeod's involvement beyond knowing that he must be a person of interest to the investigation.
The poor girl will have to carry this with her the remainder of her life. I hope she gets counseling and therapy as needed to help her put this behind her. I hope she can maintain her anonymity.
I am also hopeful the league and investigating law enforcement will act appropriately. Presumably the league will suspend those involved immediately. With respect to criminal enforcement, the players involved should be treated like anyone else involved in this sort of crime. No leniency and no "making an example" either. Their status as hockey players should not play a role either way. The perpetrators should be sanctioned the way any private citizen without fame would be sanctioned. I'm not sure if that can happen at this point but that's for other people to decide.
It's so disheartening that this is always the sort of stuff that lawyers are involved with. All too often we deal with society's mess and even worse in certain situations lawyers believe what's best for a particular client is to make the mess worse. You should be a lawyer or something when you grow up kid.
The centers available to Utica right now are pretty weak. The org might see that as worth it to not stunt the development of other prospects trying to play with ECHLers in the top 6i agree!
though his AHL salary gives room for pause
