McLeod is a good 4th liner, I tend to take the middle road with him.

I wouldn't really want him for $2.2 or $2.5 million a year though.

That said, I'm not sure how much he wants or how much he realistically thinks we'll pay him, but I've just seen those numbers thrown out by people on this board (probably on the lower end, I haven't seen too many calls for $2.5) at times in regards to what his next deal will be.
These Player need to think about what the Devils may accomplish this season and to be a part if that could be good for them and there careers. That being said they iMO can sign a deal for one year and probably lose nothing in the future. Am I wrong with this thinking?

Thank god I can always count on Bleedred to bring the discussion back to Blackwood, his favorite player.
Is Blackwood his favorite player? I didn't know that.

There was a saying "In Lou, We Trust" I am old and forgetful maybe it was "In Bill, We Trust" that is Bill Belichick. It doesn't matter. How about "In Fitz, We Trust"? What do you think?

God that poster Cryptoguy (huge Rags homer) is so annoying. How is he a mod or whatever ? Literally tries to shit on the Devils or Islanders on the main board every chance he gets. It's funny because now that we are better than the Rangers he is just looking super pathetic everytime he attempts to talk shit haha.

Grit is overrated. You know what isn’t overrated? Sociopathic violence. Not hockey fighting. Genuine unconscionable stick wielding cheap shots are the way to go. The league doesn’t care about the players and the players don’t care about themselves. The league rewards cheap shots so why not take advantage? If NJ wants to win they’d add a line of guys who just bludgeon and shank guys.
Is that any way to talk as an attorney? :sarcasm:

Can we talk about our D and Gs?
My view is we need to get another solid D because with Damon and potentially Graves not being back, we have lack experience and are thin in case of injuries and young guns have up and down periods. Who would be the best available D to bring on?

As for G, I would take a chance on Akira, Vitek and let’s not forget Nico Daws. But, Utica then needs to be stacked up and I think we could trade for some top G talent in the market. Who would that be?

Curious why McLeod wasn't qualified by you guys?

@glenwo2 cleared him of any wrong doing numerous times

At face, it's strategic by Fitzgerald. Him, Bastian and Boqvist have arbitration rights and he's trying to avoid paying them more than necessary if it went down that road. Not qualifying them prevents arbitration hearings from occurring.

Anything else discussed is just speculation for now since no one knows anything definitive, assuming you're referencing the Hockey Canada stuff. None of us will be surprised by anything with McLeod if/when that comes to light.

I think it is similar to Formenton/Batherson situation last year.

Formenton contract expired, too much risk for the Sens to sign him and risk the bad press when it comes to light.

Batherson had just signed a huge extension when the scandal was announced, so the Sens have to stand by him and not cause an issue with the NHLPA until more concrete findings are released.

McLeod had a contract last season, Devils let him play it out, but at this point, way too risky to consider extending him. He can join Formenton in the Swiss league

Even if he is implicated, Carolina might sign him. Dundon has no soul just some numbers. If McLeod signs at a discount they will take him so long as he doesn’t go to jail until the offseason.

It's entirely possible, but no one knows for certain. I don't think McLeod having a contract last year would play such an impact on him playing though. He had a cap hit of $975k and made $1 million in real dollars. If there was something known, they could have buried him and found a way out of it easily.

This may all come to light as being true, but considering he has two other NJ teammates they didn't qualify that they could have, it's just speculation. It is interesting that Friedman specifically noted we're working to bring Bastian back though without any mention of McLeod.
