As pointed out in the Brooks article, I think Quinn is really pushing a lot of the rookies. And some of that is starting to show through.

But it also feels like while the staff is teaching them to process the game faster. To make faster decisions to get control the puck and get it out of danger and up the ice, there is absolutely no coaching going on in the offensive end.

The powerplay is simply get it to Panarin or Zib and hope they score.

The offensive zone is simply force turnovers then skate around trying to make passes until the puck ends up on the least offensive player's stick so they can shoot a muffin into the goalie crest or completely miss the net.

There is no clear offensive system in place. This worked fine last year when Zib and Panarin were feeling it and could will the pucks into the net. With that not happening, it's a game of hot potato and that is simply not acceptable at this level.

i do wonder if theres sort of a weird locker room dynamic. not to suggest i sense any malcontents or animosity, seems the the team gets along well tbh. the construction is just really unusual...not sure theres a comparison. coming in you had mika who would prob unanimously be considered a 1c around the league, knocking on door of top half. panarin 11mm hart finalist. trouba. 8mm dman. kreider vet, decent sized resigning. then two top 2 picks - this years highly touted. igor ready to take the reigns from the king. just a lot of momentum and good vibes seemingly w/ the now and the future in a perfect blend. and then its a disaster. and i wonder how that plays out...i don't think any of the leaders are the get in faces and demand a standard from everyone. especially the kids, even more when they've been the bigger issues. and i envision a group that can't navigate these times effectively. the kids afraid to speak up and the vets 1 mostly reserved 2 knowing theyre the problem besides 3 not going to scream at a bunch of kids

just guesswork but i could see it being an awkward scene. not toxic, just uncertainty in communication

I honestly dont know anymore.. a few games ago I thought that the team just need time, but when nothing is changing for the better then maybe it’s time to do something else.

a new coach could help, but that might just be fruitless, I’m pretty sure that DQ is a good coach, but I’f the squad is uncoachable, then it doesn’t matter who’s in that position.

Our top 6 just hasn’t showed up this year, and we won’t win games with 1,8 G/A, unless Igor and Alex stand on their heads.

Chytils injury, along with Mika struggling and Strome being a passenger leaves us with Howden and Rooney centering this team.

We need a veteran C, with leadership abilities and a short contract, now. But we are gonna have to pay the price.

Been saying it for years but I’ll say it again. The teams coach belongs no where near an NHL bench. This team has almost no structure, no energy, looks flat almost every game, no obvious identity, no drive, no structure, no grit, no toughness, no desire, no pushback, no leadership, no heart and no consistency. Every single attribute listed above is a direct reflection of the culture created.

I could go on and on about the complete lack of X’s and O’s and on ice issues but what’s the point? I did that all last season before the season was stopped and got told I was being unfair since the team was so young. If you’d like to read that go back into the David Quinn thread or the mid season grade thread from last year.

The worst part is— here we are almost a year later and most of the players have regressed and only a very small amount( namely Kappo) have improved. I seriously don’t get what the organization is waiting for.

Last nights game was an embarrassment. If fans were in the building the team would have been booed relentlessly. This team is not fun to watch and most of the roster is actually dogging it all over the ice. If Shesty did not make multiple impressive stops the team losses 6-2.

I love the Rangers, I look forward to each and every game— they’ve been a huge part of my life ever since I knew what hockey was some 35 years now. This is one of the most frustrating times to be a Ranger fan I can remember. I will keep watching and rooting but it’s sad to say, it’s becoming more of a chore than pleasure.

Sorry for the long post but I had to get it off my chest.

We should have at least hired a college coach that's actually won a college title. I'd hire whoever it was that coached Fox and whoever it was that coached Miller at this point.

Pretty sure Tony Granato coached and might still coach Wisconsin, where Miller developed. He did not exactly have a great run as an NHL coach but I get your point!

Blackwood played well, but the team really needs to go to the net with some more intention. They aren't scoring pretty goals so they need to get more bodies to the net and pop in the ugly ones.
I know Mika earned a pass with his play last year, but he has been useless. I know, I know...it's COVID. Funny thing is it seems like half the league has gotten it and they haven't turned into the invisible man. Before anyone goes all Dr. Fauci on me, maybe he is suffering from lingering effects. Well, sit your ass down until you can show up. He is getting more than a regular shift, so I can't imagine fatigue is the issue.
I know this team is young, so its even more critical for the vets to take the reigns and step up. So, who is it going to be? Right now, I don't see anyone ready to lead.

I’m just here to say to the people who thought DeAngelo was the problem with this team: no.

There is a bigger issue here.
And quoting you Buch89, is my perfect chance to say what
"I feel" (right, wrong or indifferent).

Offensively this team has looked like crap "since Tony".
Losing Chytil and now Panarin only multiplies the look.
Losing to Boston 2x, is one thing. Losing to a depleted and "rusty" team with far less talent than we have is another.
Pathetic. I'm not on a ledge, just angry and very disappointed.
If the team is feeling like I/we(?) are, they will win the next 10.
Unfortunately, they probably arent and will not.

When you're BEST players, night in and night out that are most noticeable (3rd and 4th lines)......well, therein lies the problem. Yes, I am the master of the obvious.

I also still feel, as an organization......they screwed themselves by ridding themselves of their "headache". This team, is quite a bit worse without him. Right now. I dare them to prove me wrong, and prove they are BETTER w/o him. The cut, is a very deep cut.

How's it going? @Off Sides lol
Lol,

I went to bed after the game last night and skipped the post game until now.

As far as coaching, I don't really care. I didn't like any coach the Rangers have had and I think I've seen like at least 10-12 of them. Keenan was not really, in my opinion that good of a coach, that team was imported lightning in a bottle sort of thing IMO. He and every other coach has been as good as their best players were, which is what I think we are seeing here too. I doubt I will like whoever they replace Quinn with either.

Biggest part of this mess how I see it, the Rangers youth is just not ready to take that next step and what should be their best vet players are all having different issue that range from snake-bitten to lazy to injured/recovering, to they individually and/or as a group are just not that good. Could a new coach change some of that, maybe yet usually that only lasts through a honeymoon period and then most stuff goes right back to where it was.

Honestly, I don’t think most of this is Quinn’s fault and I think a lot of the criticism of him is baseless piling on, but something has got to change and the coach is usually that thing in situations like this.

I didn’t care about wins and losses much at all at first when they were outplaying the opposition handily and just not getting luck. But they’re not doing that anymore really and they’re also not winning winnable games. The injuries suck and are a big problem. Mika having a particularly lingering covid case sucks and is a big problem. But, damn, at some point you need to win some damn games or at least outplay the other team.

What is our identity? What is our system? I can't answer either of those questions after 3 years of Quinn.

For the record, ADA’s politics are likely shared by roughly 30-40 percent of this locker room and about 40 percent of the league as a whole - higher among US players.

ADA isn’t being targeted for his political affiliation.

Forgive my skepticism but if he was on Twitter talking about climate change, BLM and Joe Biden he would still be on the team or would have had a longer leash.

The Rangers wouldn't have been feeling the pressure from the Twitter mob.

Again, this kid is about to be on his FOURTH team in a young career and people still think this is about politics??

A few teams have gotten tired of his antics, not just the Rangers, what am I missing?

Just sounds like a coaching staff that has lost the room.

It is possible.

But I also feel like Zibanejad is essentially a black hole right now and the rest of the lineup is kind of getting sucked into that hole.

I think we’ve seen Zibanejad’s importance cut both ways the last two seasons.

I get the skepticism, but there are other guys who are known conservatives on this team.

ADA’s biggest problem is ADA.

And unfortunately there will always be enablers out there who will want to give him an out. And all that does is empower him to make his next f*** up.

Even now, I’m not totally sure he “gets it.”

I'm still disgusted. After the Bruins I felt like this team was "right there" and just being somewhat unlucky but playing hard. After the Devils game I'm utterly disgusted.

I'm beginning to think that we should have expected more of this because this is still a very young team that's developing and the thing that more often than not happens with building kind of from scratch is you take a step forward and then you take two steps back and that's a process you (hopefully) eventually work your way out of over a period of time.

Zibanejad is way off right now and IMO Strome doesn't work so well without Panarin---Kakko seems the best player on that line right now and with Chytil out--that center position is just a mess right now. You're not going to win much if that position is kind of screwed.

We can make all the excuses we want about them being young but kakko lafreniere mika kreider Strome Buchnevich fox Trouba SHOULD all be scoring. What we’re seeing is a complete and sustained breakdown of the entire offense of this team. Something needs to be done. This shouldn’t just continue on another 20’games

The hope and excitement I had pre-season....gone, just like Mika’s ability to score.

I remember watching the Giants thinking "at least the Rangers will be good". Now I'm more disappointed than I've been with the Giants, by a lot. The Giants at least were well coached and they just didn't have the talent.

We do miss Chytil, but being realistic, there's as many questions about his ability to center a top six line as there are about anything else on this team. Buchnevich 'Mr. Development' was back on the fourth line last game and to start this one. Why are we banking on Chytil to break out this year? A handful of good games to start the season? He was shot out of a cannon when he came up from the A last year.

I really like and believe in the kid, personally, but hanging this season on missing Chytil is really premature.
