I said after the late tying goal that we looked bad and I didn't feel good about tonight.

And it still didn't go the way I thought. I became optimistic after we took the lead early in the 3rd, but that stinky second goal was the chokeslam and the Timo penalty was the tombstone.

we'd have a real goaltender around though (assuming we have the same markstrom we've been seeing)

also have a diff coach
I do trust Keefe more than Brunette (since everyone wants to say he ran the team lol) but it's not like we dominated any part of these two games either. At best we played them even the last fifty minutes with better goaltending last night, and got out played tonight.

Was our quality of competition very high in the first half?
Yes, when you add in the weird traveling and lack of rests.

They have 13th easiest remaining schedule. Caps have an easy schedule too, top 3. Lets hope Caps can’t sustain what they are doing.

Caps have the 2nd easiest schedule in the league the rest of the year. We’re middle of the pack.
We were 19th coming into today I think.

I assume we may have dropped a spot after this game because it was against Carolina, and if we didn't then we stayed the same.

After both humpty ass Anaheim and San Jose (probably Seattle too and I guess the Rangers) come off our schedule in the next week/week and a half it will probably be 15th or maybe even 13th or so, but I'm just taking a guess. That's not an exact calculation.

Markstrom obviously has the longer track record but Vitek that year was not worse than Markstrom this year.
yeah exactly - there's a diff between a hot goalie (who can turn into a pumpkin in playoffs) and an actual top goalie

totally getting ahead of things, but would have to assume marky would be better. tactic-wise that's where we need to adjust against canes

We are also better built for playoff hockey with a better defense.

i said this too, but no one's liking my tinfoil hat lol

honestly, it's prob bc he's super inexperienced, but dan o'rourke should have overseen/handled that whole timo situation a lot better

Nah, this clearly a homer that calls in favor of the Canes and should be barred from officiating such games. No one can change my mind!

I'm in favor of officials, especially young officials, being unable to officiate games in which their favorite team and their rival are playing. Too much room for unintentional bias.

Pretty WINNABLE stretch of games coming up on this trip. 4 of the 5 teams are non-playoff teams and the Kings are definitely winnable as well.

But I'm sure something will happen in one of those games that we expect to win, whether it's Jake Allen or running into a hot goalie like Georgiev or Grubauer.

Thankfully NJ will have more rest days in second half. And look at that April schedule. Hot damn, a4/5 day stretch of rest in there. Only one away gm and its only in Boston. This team can be very fresh going into Playoffs.

How we didn't get a powerplay from Orlov jumping Haula 5 minutes later when he was engaged with the ref going to the box is one of the greatest mysteries of our generation.

They both got roughing penalties.

So until that point nobody was getting anything? Why was Haula be lead away?

Orlov jumping him wasn't an instigator?

Necas diving is one thing. Carolina was at home and not winning, the powerplay was definitely coming. Could see that from a mile away.

The Orlov thing was completely BS.

Pretty sad that Allen gets outplayed by Tokarski and Elvis. And I'm not even gonna count Wedgewood because we were shutout.

Tokarski's team outplayed us, but the Jackets certainly did not and we scored enough in that game in the end that Allen's poor play was the difference in that one.

I'm not convinced if you play Allen in Anaheim and they start *Looks up their current guy they have up due to Gibson's usual injuries* Calle Clang instead of Dostal that Allen will outplay him.
Markstrom gets the start in Anaheim to manage the rest between the goalies. But you they have a huge buffer on a playoff spot, you play both goalies to not wear Markstrom out. I don’t care how bad Allen is. The season from here on out is getting ready for the playoffs. There are virtually no more individual big games left.

Second goal was ass but yeah anyone blaming Allen is out to lunch
Wait - people think Allen played bad? Dude was the only reason we had a chance.
Oh come on now.

He was also the only reason we had a chance in the game against Washington for the first two periods until he wasn't. Same shit happened that game.

He's virtually an auto-loss now, 0-4-0 in his last 4 games with an .861% and 4 goals per game.

He was TRASH tonight and he was TRASH the last 3 games he played.

He was great in first two periods and gave them a chance. Shame he let in a poopy one in the third. Nothing more needs to be analyzed there

They'll win out in California then lose to Seattle because that's just what they do (SJ does scare me though since they have trouble with them for whatever reason). Then they'll run the Rangers out of the building and get ran out of the building by Tampa because that's also what they do.

He made like (i'm guessing) over 20 saves before he gave up his first goal. Some of them high quality.
