I think markstrom wins about 8-10 games that we shouldn't have or where goaltending cost us last year. i also dont think he puts us in a massive 0-2 against the rangers or a massive liability against the canes. basically the difference of making the playoffs and possible home ice. to me that is lightyears

as for the bolded part if you want to wait out other teams from their windows then you will be waiting a long time. i dont care what florida does/doesn't do how good or bad they are or any other team. you give your core the best chance they have to win today not two years from now today.
Vitek put us in that position
Vitek was clearly the most unreliable netminder we had.

It didn't take our 10th overall pick to right the ship vs the Rags and Canes. Ruff killed us by holding on to VV in gm 4 vs CAR imo.

Vitek isn't here anymore. Jake Allen n Kakhonen clearly showed how a goalie with an IQ can do for this team. They showed anyone, including what if Markstrom, was better than VV. Didn't coat us a lot to find out.

Not saying we wait about a window but showed more team deficiencies outside of goalie this past season. Let's see where Keefe gets us to!!!

That really pissed me off. Once they put him in for game 3 and we won that game with him, they felt like they were married and committed to keeping him in there for game 4. He had nothing to do with the game 3 win. He allowed 4 goals. Andersen/Kochetkov just stunk worse than he did. He looked shaky that entire game, and the entire coaching staff/goalie department/management should have noticed that and refused to start him for game 4. I don't blame just Ruff. That was a failure from everybody that had any say in those decisions. It was like the scene in Ghostbusters were they shut the storage grid down and it almost destroys the city. Especially with how he screwed us the first 2 games against the Rangers. Thank god they didn't go back to him for game 7 against the Rangers after Schmid got shelled in game 6 at MSG. We would have lost game 7 and that series.

And Vitek's explosive diarrhea episode with allowing about 3 goals in like 4 minutes or whatever it was in the 2nd period of game 4 was his first of about 4 or 5 times that wound up happening. It happened 4 or 5 times this regular season. One of those was when he got pulled and we came back to beat the Islanders earlier in the year. I think one of the times that happened was in his second to last game here.

There were also a couple of other times he gave up two quick goals very quickly., but there 4 or 5 times he allowed 3 or 4 goals in a matter of just a few minutes/4 or 5 shots faced betweeen game 4 against Carolina and his second to last game here.

Funny enough, Carolina did the same thing with Andersen this year in the playoffs against the Rangers. After starting Kochetkov in game 3 and immediately going back to Andersen for game 4 to avoid the sweep after they lost that game with Kochetkov, you knew they were marrying themselves to sticking with Andersen the remainder of the series, because they couldn't lose another game in that series. Once he won game 4, you knew it was gonna end with Andersen in and probably in a series loss eventually.

Guys like Dakota Joshua that haven’t done an ounce of what Palat has done in his career are going to be getting some eye opening deals by the sounds of things. If you want more “tough to play against” guys, which Palat certainly is, get used to paying a premium for that.

The contract obviously isn’t great but he is the type of player we want to pair with the rest of our lineup, and need more of.

schmid looked good with a small sample size last year too how did that work out for us.

Ok and Ullmark is some elite goalie? Cuz he's not.

Compared to what we had to deal with lately, a "marginal upgrade" in goal is a huge one.

That's not the point? Trading significant assets for this marginal upgrade is the point. If we can get Markstrom for a 7th round pick, no one would say no to that, but we all know the price is gunna be higher than that. I'm not trading any top tier prospect for him either, that's just dumb.

I'm not sure Palat is someone I'd put in the tough to play against category. He's smart, detail oriented, opportunistic, dedicated, seems unfazed by on ice chaos, and has some skill, but I don't see him laying the lumber or hitting anyone hard. To me, what most are really saying about "hard to play against" is willing to cheap shot, like a Trouba or a Tkachuk (in the Allstar game? What is wrong with him?) or hit guys in the back, or that will hold and interfere since they can't skate well (the Sasquatch-human hybrid in Carolina does this plenty). Palat is like a slower, sturdier, slightly better defensively, less skilled version of Tatar to me.

Well, how do we how Markstrom performs if he's not on our team playing within our system? Is that what you were implying?

A trade to acquire him needs to happen. The trade and the outcome of the trade are independent. So whether he's great or poor has very little effect on what we gave up months before.
That’s not at all what I was implying and anyone with first grade reading comprehension could tell that.

All I talked about is the reasonable value you can expect him to provide. There’s a lot of different outcomes with different likelihood’s and the overall value of what we can expect from that is not at all worth a 10th overall pick.

Is the goalie market next summer likely to be better or worse? If the price is too high to pay this summer, is there anybody worth saving the assets for and going after next year if whatever cheaper option we go with doesn't work?

There's a certain goalie who, if he gets to UFA...I'd throw whatever he asks.

if the Islanders go in a totally new direction this offseason, what do the Devils need to add to 10 OA for Sorokin?

If 10OA + Mercer for Sorokin was put on the table do you bite?

maybe. I don't think he just completely forgot how to goalie and he's prob the best you'd find if he were available.

Can someone give intel on this guy

New Jersey(No Fanz!)
Interesting to note that Amanda says he rounds out the staff with Taylor, McGill, Brylin, and Rogalski (shit). Guess all those guys are staying.
"shit" is right.

Why do all of us fans see what Marty does not (or maybe refuses to) when it comes to Rogalski???

It makes me wish I was Fitz or the one of the owners and got in Marty's face telling him that Rogalski has got to go NOW. 🖕

It's an absolute joke that he's still employed.

Hell...it's very odd that everyone except for Ruff is still here.

Why not let the man choose his own staff?

Guy got his first head coaching gig at 33 with Chicago. He’s 39 now.

Has been the Canucks AHL coach the last 2 seasons, they had a good record in those years.

I’m guessing he’s looking to springboard back into a NHL head coaching gig from this position. He interviewed for the Sharks job.

I would go after Ullmark he is 30 yrs old rather than Markstrom who is 35 yrs old. Boston could use a 10 pick in the first round. Go get him Ftiz.
Yeah, not moving a top 10 pick for a pending UFA after next season...even with a handshake agreement he'll sign a ext July 1st, not taking that risk. ( not giving it up for markstrom either, nor do i think we'll have to)

Only coaching thing that shocks me is Chris Taylor staying considering his was Lindy's hand picked right hand man when he got here.

what if — and hear me out here — we wait to see what happens before blaming… (checks notes) Martin Brodeur for Rogalski being on next year’s coaching staff.

☹ ...Captain, how are we to know what reasonable value he can provide if he's never played a game here? I'm asking for clarity on your statement "reasonable value." Some might argue there is more value in a known risk (Markstrom) than an unknown risk (#10 overall pick).

I like Markstrom by the way
