Voodoo curse set on Toronto and the Rangers. If one of those 2 teams fail miserably down the stretch and we win 75% or more of our remaining games (against weak teams) we have a good chance of making the playoffs

We also have to pass Columbus and Washington too since they're also between us and the wild card, that's what makes it so tough. You aren't just chasing one team, you're chasing three.

And people were going gaga over the Detroit-Wild game, Detroit ain't going to be one of the teams we catch. Might as well just root for them to beat the Jackets and Leafs this week.

There at the point where they basically have to win out or reel off 9 out of 10. At minimum, they probably have to go 8-2 along with getting some help. Just too big of a hole.

Oh Lord. I miss the days of 10 game winning streaks. Seems so distant.

When was the last time we've even gone on one of those, the 06 run into the playoffs?

We had a nine-game streak Sutter's first season amazingly enough, just before we started to fall into the abyss the final two months. I'm sure we had a pretty long streak in the Lemaire run during 2011, maybe eight was the longest? We also had a six-gamer at the end of 2012 (turned into seven after the first playoff game).

Correction: Actually the Sutter streak was eight games in '09, and the longest Lemaire streak in '11 was also eight. I remembered all of those, but didn't remember we actually had a five-game streak at the beginning of last year too lol

Yea, I was going to say 8 or 9 in 2010 when we got off to that ridiculous 28-9 (I think) start under Lemaire 2.0 and then the wheels came off during the last few months and into the playoffs.

The first 3 months of that season was probably the the best puck I've seen this team play since the 06 run to the playoffs. They were absolutely clicking on everything. And then the New Year rolled around and it all came apart. The Kovalchuk trade really didn't make much of a difference. The train was already off the tracks and falling off the mountain.

I remember Marty had 29 wins in 39 starts.

Then Patty got a concussion in Colorado, we got our ass kicked the enxt night in Phoenix, and we were done. The Kovlachuk trade happened, Marty got shelled at the Olympics, Langenbrunner became a cancer, and we just couldn't do anything right.

8-1-1 is pretty much the minimum required, and Washington is a must-win.

Yotes
@ Isles
Panthers
@ Sabres
Caps
@ Canes
Flames
@ Sens
Isles
Bruins

Yotes and Caps (potentially Bruins) are the only ones with something to fight for. On paper our schedule is about as easy as it could be, but we'll probably crap the bed against a couple of lottery teams.

Actually we did have an eight-game winning streak the beginning of THAT season too now that I look back at the results. But I was referring to the end of '10-11 with the redemption run in the second half...we also had an eight-game streak in February that year.

The 5-10 game win streak or hot streak used to be a tradition around here. I remember several springs where were firing on all cylinders late in the season. Now the 5-10 game losing streak seems to be the new tradition.

Have to beat the Caps in regulation. Both teams are still mediocre enough that they can be caught if we actually...you know...win games. Need the Leafs to finish off their collapse too.

Biggest thing (and sadly the most unlikely) is we need to WIN GAMES...and lots of them.

I know this sounds awful but Jonathan Bernier getting injured may have saved our season.

Obviously we've got to put in the work and get points before anything else, but Toronto's laughable free fall will likely open up a new position that wasn't available before.

We could sure use that 5-10 game win streak right about now, though.

Law if averages and history say we are due for one. Life works in funny ways, like that 30 game hot streak with Lemaire out of nowhere. The guys need to want it though. They say they want it, but I don't believe it. Some guys like Jagr, Marty, Henrique clearly do, but others are just going they the motions.

It is the only reason we even have a damn chance is their free fall. They play a bit better golf clubs are already out there.
