That just means he really was dogging it when he was with Buffalo.

He wanted to be with Boston from the get-go, probably because they're always in the playoffs year after year basically and he wanted to be in that situation.

At least that's my theory.
If he wanted to be in Boston from the start he would have signed there. It’s stupid to say he was dogging it in Buffalo he’s literally in a contract year and he only signed a one year deal in the offseason because he wanted to prove himself and earn a bigger deal. The opportunity to play with Eichel was supposedly the reason he signed with Buffalo, he thought he could put up big numbers with him and get a nice contract in the summer.

He doesn’t like disclosing the lineup. This isn’t news, we go through this every game.

Not to mention there are probably some guys that will take warmups to see how they feel and if they’re good to go today or not like PK and maybe one of the other forwards who is day to day.

People find the weirdest things to complain about.

Well i'd like to know if Foote is in, makes it easier to decide if I'm gonna watch or you know...do anything else.

Only the first but looking like the Devils will be blownout and shutout by the Rangers who are only one about year older for their roster average

Fitzgerald has quite the offseason ahead of him because, even though I wouldnt do it and one season isnt enough, if the team is as bad next year as they are this series against the Rags.. I cant see Fitzgerald lasting long

theres a difference between rebuilding and bottoming out with the youngest forward roster ever and going something like two goals in four games.

Its not a bad thing per say but its a very controversial way to rebuild a team; as currently constructed were the worst roster in the NHL

Also I think a huge part of why the team is so bad right now is Shero didnt weaponize anything, from cap space to assets, to get middling talent for the rebuild

when you dont have talent coming in and off the books periodically, patching holes over time, your success is going to come to a screeching halt when you have nobody signed (Devils have two contracts past 2023)

I thought it was because they offered the most amount of money for 1 year?

I mean let's be frank here : If Boston offered what Buffalo did, he'd already be playing there with a brand new contract.

Or if any other team, for that matter, offered (aside from us, the Yotes, and the Oilers) the same, he'd be there, too.

If he was getting big money offers with longer term, he would’ve taken them. That’s just common sense.

yeah but I wasn't talking about longer term.

I was talking about in terms of just 1-year deals.
The only reason he would take a 1-year deal is because the longer deals weren’t good enough and he wanted to bet on himself to have a good year and get better offers next offseason.

Can I be explained to why doing anything thats considered a 'risk' is bad in a rebuild?

all just today ive seen people say;
- you cant sign UFAs, most end up bad deals and nobody wants to go to the swamp
- you cant trade future assets, were rebuilding and need them all
- you cant trade young players because their value is low and you need them all

so can someone explain to me what f***ing option Fitzgerald has to improve the team, if you all put such suffocating restrictions on him?

Well the guys he did weaponize it on to a degree - like Palmieri, Johansson, Hall, etc have all since been flipped for more futures aside from Subban whose turn on the merry-go-round will probably come next year. But yeah you would have liked to have seen even more when we had $20 million of cap space unused every year and it hasn't led to anything.

This news about the AHL isnt very good IMO

seems like it was handled poorly, and where will the AHL team play in Newark?

Draft well and be patient for one. There are certainly free agents he can go after if they make sense. Same can be said about trades.

Youre telling me to be patient

tell the players; theyre the only ones you need to be concerned with losing confidence and morale

The difference between the Rangers and Devils is the top young talent that the Rangers have is complimented by Panarin, Zibanejad and Kreider. The Devils have NOBODY to glue everything together. The Devils need to take advantage of teams in this expansion draft and get some 27-29 year old solid players to fit in with this team and knock out some young players that are just not ready.
