I kind of got those trades (even though I was skeptical it would work) because I think Drury saw we need a little skill (which we did - Goodrow playing too many minutes) and we needed offense, which we sure as f*** did.

So I don't know, maybe he kind of sees it.

As we found out, and as I already knew, the trouble with offense is more nuanced than just having good players. We don't have the right players and we don't have an offensive scheme.

It’s starts with the defense, I’m not sure if the coach or gm will ever get it. Zac Jones was sent to the AHL for Ben freaking Harpur. I don’t think Jones was really any good, but if the thinking is a literal stiff could be better, it’s hard to trust management and or coaching staff.

They were a pretty strong defensive team through half of the season (top 4?) with under performing goaltending.

They should have leaned into that a bit more. It's probably going to be the best course of action moving forward too because trying to become a high octane offense just requires too many moves but thats okay, they don't need to be that either.

You can create offense through ugly AF hockey too. Need a PMD in the worst way though.

He didn’t last time he had a disciplinarian.

That was before he got his big ticket. Of course he was going to play the role of good soldier before he cashed in on his life time deal.

He was a better player then too.

No to Matthews. I don't want to go the superstar marquee name route anymore. Give me a slightly more skilled and faster rendition of the Black and Blueshirts. I love what Seattle is doing with a bunch of nobodies as @Machinehead would say

I'm out on Matthews too. If he were to hit the market, unfortunately the last couple decades have conditioned me to expect the Rangers to throw their hat in the ring and Dolan to sign off on bidding like a drunk fool.

Panarin going nowhere, get a Torts-like coach and you have a game breaking talent there.
I dont agree with you on a lot EdJovo, and hate that we have to cater a coaching choice to one player potentially at the expense of others, but I can actually say that you have a point here.

Tidbit about me, I'm a Gallant fan, but wanted Torts as 1st choice in hiring process way back when. Panarin played his best, most inspired playoff hockey for Torts too: 18 points in 16 games played, including leading the upset of Tampa with Torts, Bobrovsky & co.

I'd still rather rid ourselves of Panarin than cater an entire coaching selection process to him, especially when he played a major role in costing us this series, and was bad last postseason, but if you can't get rid of Panarin, this may be the only way to salvage the next 3 years.

This team with or without the trades would have been the three seed. The only reason they went in a tailspin is because they were playing short handed. No clue if they lose in 7 games or faster, but this trade deadline was useless.

Every person said Kane was immobile, and they went out of their way to still trade for him. We also got to older Tarasenko, who was fine, but again, a just nothing trade.

I’m indifferent on Gallant, I agree with you that every NHL coach is basically the same guy. I don’t know why Chris Drury should get to continue at his job, but he Little fingered his way into the job, I can’t imagine he is taking any blame.

That’s a lot of words to say I have no clue what the solution is.
It's easy to say the deadline was useless when you lose but every team with a chance made some significant moves to try and get better. The Rangers were no different and were considered a legit contender. It just so happens that they had a really tough 1st round matchup they couldn't overcome. I have no problems with the moves they made, especially a 1st for Tarasenko and Mikkola who both played well. Truth be told if both Panarin and Mika produce like they are supposed to they would be playing Carolina in a few days.

I know we’re probably the two biggest polar opposites on the topic of Panarin but regardless even if he doesn’t return to how he was in the playoffs for the Jackets I think that a more structured coach who isn’t known as some happy go lucky players coach who lets the inmates run the asylum is going to get more out of him than what Gallant does. And get more out of the team as a whole

Panarin going nowhere, get a Torts-like coach and you have a game breaking talent there. Gallant is the worst coach for him. His contract is also so big that anything you’ll get for him won’t bring 1/10th the talent back. And do you really trust this organization to spend that money any more wisely? We traded Buchnevich for cap space to use more money than he signed for on *checks notes* Nemeth, Reaves, Goodrow & Blais.

Trade Trouba.

Trade one of Mika or Kreider, break up that bromance to shake up the room.

Trade Goodrow.

Trade Laffenstock.

Bring back The Chosen One.

Add a fast dman to replace Trouba.

Blais?

This makes sense unlike the other shit thrown around here. I really do think Drury makes significant changes.
He has to. This is not one of those teams that "just ran into bad luck"... This devils team was completely beatable, as we saw for 3 games... The problem is that everyone decided to just take entire games off, which again, falls on the coaching staff...

There's a reason gallant has never made it 3 full seasons as a head coach. His head is far up his f***ing fat asshole that he cannot see the sun shining in front of him. An arrogant son of a bitch who thinks he knows everything and can do no wrong

Should have been fired after the 7 game losing streak this past season. Drury flubbed that one big time. Perhaps the players were right in trying to shoo him out of here.

You can put this on the players all you want, but TWENTY THREE PLAYERS DO NOT GO FROM WORLD BEATERS TO COMPLETE LOSERS IN A SPAN OF 20 GAMES

There isn't a coach in the league who is going to get more out of Panarin. He simply is what he is at this point.

Can he be better in a different environment? Yeah probably (again, I could see Florida being a pretty good fit for him where he would be their 3rd or 4th most important forward), but for 11.6 million a year he should be the f***ing environment.

He's been incredibly selfish, impossible to play with and just all around bad when the chips have been down. It's time to move on.

Gotta agree here. Get a coach that bread wants to play for. Nobody wants that $11.6M contact rn

So f***ing sick of gallant. So sad that he's owed two more years of salary. What a waste of life. Get the f*** lost you loser

Its the unfortunate truth. He doesn't want to leave, no one wants his full contract, can't buy him or or waive him...we truly may be stuck with him - save for a miracle.

I'm still not convinced any coaching change can lift us to win with Panarin in the playoffs, but you may as well give it a shot or else the 3 years will go to waste anyways.

Hopefully this serves as a lesson to not hand the keys of the kingdom to a player and let him control and dictate organization moves via wielding the power of his NMC. Unless he's McDavid, which Panarin is certainly not ( no one is lol...just Panarin happens to be 2nd highest paid player in NHL)

Yea, that’s fine, don’t really disagree. I understand him going for it. The Kane trade was a joke though, it was just completely not needed. Maybe it will come out and Dolan was the one who wanted it done, and I’ll forgive Drury. It’s also not even the 2-3-4 we gave up for him, it just felt so unnecessary once you do the Tarasenko trade.

They made the PP worse doing the Kane trade as well.

I’ll say again, I have no idea what the solutions are here this summer, but I’m excited/terrified to see what they do.

Amongst all the franchise level shit, on a more micro level, Trocheck was a huge L these playoffs. I was expecting a Strome who can skate and shoot, and instead we got Sean Avery with a worse penalty ratio. I'm not gonna let 7 games define him after delivering during the season, but I feel like he's avoided a lot of heat.

I posted the same some time last week, completely agree. He was underrated for how much he sucked in the playoffs. Everything he brought in the RS in terms of being able to carry the puck in and push Ds back was gone. Super disappointing.

See, here's where I disagree...

Where is that tweet where someone said "gallant doesn't have a system, that's why he's never made it more than 2 full season as a coach"

You're seeing exactly what this looks like. Gallant is a f***ing passenger. He's as bad as Jim Montgomery for the bruins or Aaron Boone for the Yankees. A complete buffoon who has no idea how to manage talent, and no idea how to implement accountability...

Trouba being forcefed minutes when he was a god damned turnstile

Zac Jones being sent to the AHL for Ben f***ing 8th Dman Harpur

Panarin getting forcefed top 6 minutes while not producing

Moving zibanejad of the most SUCCESSFUL part of the power play to accommodate a 34 year old fossil in Patrick Kane

Mikkola getting 1st pair minutes

Not scratching laf when he did not produce

A f***ing MONKEY COULD MANAGE THE TALENT ON THIS TEAM, and somehow gallant managed to do worse...

Complete putz... I cannot express in words how disgusting of a coaching job this asshole did

Panarin has been a very productive player for this team and has led them in scoring every year he has been here. The problem is when it really counted the last 2 years he has not been good. I think teams would be interested but he does have a NMC so it will be an interesting off season since Drury was not happy with his playoff performance last year and this year was even worse. I personally don't think he's on the team next year.
