very impressive win. came out strong and got up 2 despite 2 meh penalties to kill. thought they took their foot off the gas a little too much last 5 of 1st and much of 2nd but still kept them to the outside for the most part and really didn't put pucks in danger to feed them offense. solid job being physical - not in the big hit sense but being on pucks closing quickly and making sure to finish hits. pp looked elite on the rare occasion officials managed to see their penalties. pk was phenomenal which is great but sam will now announcers curse by saying how good they were next game and we immediately watch a puck go in the net. very mature game overall with a very mature 3rd getting pucks deep, pressuring when we could but keeping guys back and limiting them to very few chances other than kandre booting one with 3 mins left. great game, now can the rangers repeat that? thats killed them as far back as i can remember...part of that is the other teams are gonna push back sure...but great teams step on teams throats when they're down. take game 2 and head home with all the momentum.

Great overall team performance. I voted Mika (tremendous first period for him), Goodrow, and Lindy (what a snipe!).

My only concerns were the play of Kane (looks like he can hardly skate) and Schneider (looked to be reacting/behind the play for most of the night). Bigger concern is Kane. You have to have a top line that produces to go far in the playoffs.

And the PP was good tonight because Fox and Kreider did what they do, but do we really no longer look ro set up Mika's one timer?
I feel like the set up we have, will allow mika and panarin to rotate and then all of a sudden mika is in that spot for the 1t.

To like where? At the pre-game meal seating arrangement? Sure. On the ice no way. I'm not breaking up our best forechecking line to put a guy that is allergic to get 5 feet within touching someone. Let Zibs and Kreider deal with it.
I still think Chytil and Laffy could be effective on the forecheck.

Igor
Goodrow
then flip a coin Fox/Kreider

If our top six cancel out the Devils, our bottom 6 will give us a big edge.

Mistakenly had the Devils' broadcast for the 1st period and they put up a stat they're 23-12-3 or something after giving up the first goal lol.

Kane was atrocious. We have to stop going backwards in our zone. Get the puck out, then get it deep.
we have the best bottom6 in the NHL

Schneider played 17 mins and I felt every one of them. Yeeesh. That’s the weakest link right now. He looks lost most shifts. Love the kid but yikes mikkola bailed him out a ton

His brain needs to catch up to his body. Devils have a matchup advantage there. Couldn’t capitalize tonight but surely they’ll try to exploit it

Stopped watching at 6 minutes or so left in the third when it was 4-0. I just knew we wouldn't let Igor get the shutout he deserved. Still hasn't gotten that first playoff shutout yet.

He was trying to play 1 on 5 like McDavid most of the game. Not gonna work fella
I thought he looked frustrated and fairly ineffective (relative to a player of his caliber). Hischier was the Devil I was most impressed with. Of course, Lundqvist and Valiquette sounded impressed, so what do I know?

My takeaway from game 1 is that the Rangers will somehow make it to the conference finals and have to give up a 1st even though Patrick Kane will do Jack shit to contribute to that

Dude was largely invisible tonight and so god damn slow on a team full of poor skating lugs

That and Schneider stinks. Wouldn’t give up on him but he is not good. It’s unfortunate the Rangers have no other defenseman options to replace him frankly

Kane was always going to be a wild card. We rolled the dice on him with minimal risk.

The key I think will be trying to limit his minutes, and maximize his usefulness. Having one of our 4th line spot him for a shift or two at even strength probably wouldn't kill either player involved. I;d shift Vesey and Goodrow in once a period to keep him fresh.
