NHL trade deadline in two weeks...

  • Xenforo Cloud will be upgrading us to version 2.3.5 on March 3rd at 12 AM GMT. This version has increased stability and fixes several bugs. We expect downtime for the duration of the update. The admin team will continue to work on existing issues, templates and upgrade all necessary available addons to minimize impact of this new version. Click Here for Updates
I'll go with:

  1. Zucker out for a decent return. But another, similar player will go for more because their owner will retain salary and ours won't.
  2. Greenway extended. There will be some sticker shock at the price, but a year from now it will look fine because a bunch of other, similar players will also get more money than expected in the forthcoming "the salary cap is about to explode!" free agent frenzy.
  3. 1 hockey trade. I'll guess Quinn out in a change of scenery type deal for another forward. The trade will spark the forward group a bit. Which, on the one hand is great! But also, will leave me wondering why we didn't make this move (and others) 3 months ago when the season was still salvageable.
  4. NAK back to Washington for some AHL help.
  5. Jokiharju on an expiring deal at $3m while he's in and out of the lineup? I'll guess that Adams will be motivated to offload that salary. But I don't think there will be much of a market given that: (a) Joker doesn't really play a playoff style game; and (b) I don't think we'll retain to make him cheap. Given that, I'll guess a rebuilding team like the Sharks decides to test drive him for the rest of the season and gives us some AHL help in return.

Jokiharju's agent convinces Adams that his goal scoring prowess at the 4 Nations was his real value, and Adams resigns him for 4 years, $4M AAV!!

Not sure why the 1st is in the offer, that's too much imo, but Cozens + (not Byram) for Konecny, yes.

I think that is a lot for Konecny (though maybe Samuelsson is just a big cap dump at this point).

When Konecny was at the point in his career that Cozens is at, their offensive #’s were real close to the same. And here is a little tidbit, Konecny’s most common 5v5 linemates over his first 5 years in the NHL: Giroux, Courturier, Simmonds, Voracek, Schenn, Van Riemsdyk. Cozens’s: Quinn, Peterka, Benson, Olofsson. It is simply not possible to overstate how Adams has mismanaged the development of our young players at the NHL level.

I would try Cozens on the wing for the rest of the season with McLeod and Tuch. He might just be a better, younger, bigger, and cheaper, player than Konecny.

This is exactly my expectation. Anything additional will be, honestly, stunning. Except maybe an AHLer for AHLer move.

“We had a lot of productive conversations that will be the foundation for potential moves this summer.” - Kev, soon.
At the deadline: “We had a lot of productive conversations that will be the foundation for potential moves this summer.”

At the draft: “We had a lot of productive conversations that will be the foundation for potential moves this summer.”

July 1st: “We had a lot of productive conversations that will be the foundation for potential moves this summer.”

October 2025: “I think, you know, I've made lots of calls to understand the market and what's out there,” Adams said. “This is a difficult time of year to make trades, not every team is ready to do something. But I'm open to different things and I'm not going to stop trying to improve this team.” (*other teams continue making trades during this time)

Rinse and repeat

I'm not saying he'll make zero moves. But they will continue to be inconsequential in solving this mess.

Will Adams actually speak ? His last two press appearances were the infamous palm trees, taxes, and your setting me up scrum before the new year, and Rob Ray Night.

Chad's first mock deadline isn't crazy with only two trades in it.

what were they btw ?

Maybe a mod can pin a trade deadline thread? Too early?

I could also see a(nother) mostly meaningless bottom of the roster type addition like in previous seasons.

I’d be shocked if anything major happened, and even more shocked if the Sabres took on additional payroll in any trade.
