BTW, this might have been Shesty's best playoff game of his career. I know there was a spectacular game he had against the Canes last year, I think it was game 3 but he gave up a stinker as the only goal. He wasn't asspectacular as he was in some games (even against the Lightning) but he was flawless. That Penguins series was his 2006 Devils series for Lundqvist. But to be honest the entire team played like a joke defensively that series.

The Rangers tonight looked like a team that was tired of the constant knob swallowing of the Devils by some media and fans. They looked focused and determined. The Rangers are very good. I still think this series is going at least 6 but I don't see the Devils beating the Rangers 4 times. Just don't see it. People forget how resilient and mentally tough the Rangers are when the games really matter, not to mention the obvious talent and skill. They are going to be a tough out for any team.

Complete domination by the Rangers- in every aspect of the game, at every position, in every way. I’m not sure the Devils were going to score an even strength goal if that game extended another 3 periods. Defending was intense, purposeful and stuck to the system. Coaching was incredible( Loved how Gallant went at the official on the Miller high stick no call) and the effort was there consistently.

The Rangers basically just put in film a training video for how to win a playoff game( probably with the exception of the penalties which a fair number smelled of “screw the Rangers”) and I’d imagine the league took notice of just how dominant they were!

Let’s hope game 2,3 and 4 go exactly the same way!

quick thoughts Rangers V Devils

Devils weren't ready to play playoff hockey...it's a weird distinction but even though I'm sure they thought they were, they didn't really have the mindset you could see the Rangers had. In addition, a lot of their chances and offense coming off the rush comes from having to make exceptional individual plays a lot of the time, and while they certainly have the players to do that, it's just hard to rely on that over and over and over in the playoffs.....
Just to expand on your good post,... most teams in the playoffs make their chances forcing turnovers. We were very disciplined last night, keeping turnovers to a minimum. That and the fact they didn't pressure us like we pressed them. So it was unlikely they could play their transition game if we weren't making any unforced turnovers. They are gonna need to match our intensity and find another level of battle if they want to make a series out of this. Cause you can't just wait around for a team to make mistakes; you have to force them to happen.

Clearly a great night for the Rangers.
I'll say it until its no longer true, Adam Fox is the best all around defenseman in the game.
One area that we have to improve is winning more board battles. The D's came away with far too many pucks along the walls and corners.
There was a narrative from the talking heads that the D's defensemen were on par with the Rangers. No, they aren't.

Patrick Kane is going to make some big big plays during this run. Zero doubt in my mind.

Not his best night but thought he got better in the second half of it.

Chytil by the way quietly had a great night.

Again only weakness really is Schneider. They have to probably cut down on his ice time. 17 mins way to much but that was indicative of the score more than anything. Everyone should be pretty fresh for game 2. Nobody played heavy mins or got touched by the devils. That was as easy a win as we’ve had all year.

People suggested trading him before the deadline…
I think most people suggested trading him in the offseason which is still a likely outcome. And it’s not because we don’t like Goodrow, it’s because you can’t keep everyone and we’d rather not lose Chytil, for example.

Fine for a 21 year old and, with a 3 goal lead, smart not to put extra pressure/minutes on Fox and "save" him for the future. Excellent coaching/line management.

It's even more likely if this team is ultimately successful.
