Detroit Redwings Downfall

Cossa and Augustine towards excellent goaltending.

* Cossa and Augustine looks excellent in goal.......A

Cossa and Augustine are arguably both top 5 goaltender prospects.

Cossa & Augustine have Vezina potential

And here is why it's dangerous to claim prospects are sure things before they even get a taste of the show... Cossa rocking a .778 save percentage tonight in his NHL debut. Will this, along with what looks to be another loss, humble our dear friends from Michigan? Stay tuned on the next episode of The Yzerplan, season 6!

Yikes, if after soo many seasons of rebuild "not finishing bottom 5" is an improvement, things are really bad in Detroit.
Things are for sure really bad in Detroit. For some weird reason though about a 3rd of the fanbase refuses to admit it, but not only that, they poke fun at the fans who see things as they are. It's ridiculous...

We SUCK and this product on this ice is an absolute failure, yet check the wings board...so many fans are saying this is all part of a normal rebuild

I reject the premise of this thread, When was the last time the wings made in the playoffs? 10 season--so that is when their down fell happened.

For me it is more about their drafting and development
There is a thread from 2017 that basically asks this question.

To Cossa's defense, he should have started this game ..tough to come off the bench cold, in your first game ever, in this situation. It's Derek Laloser who set him up to fail, like he's done with the rest of the team

Cossa will be fine

Cossa will be ok. They shoulda just let the vet stay in there and try and battle out of it than put a kid making his debut in cold.

I watched that game from the final 10 minute mark. Holy shit. I've never seen a team give as pathetic and incompetent of an effort as the Sabres. The fact that Detroit couldn't roll them over and f*** them to death is an indictment.
Seider looked great, he'd be elite if he was a good skater.
Larkin and Raymond are first line players, but they're not gamebreakers.
The rest of the team is exactly what they're labeled. A bunch of filler. Washed forwards who can't complete a play and AHL d-men who can't keep up.

I don't know if I've ever seen more hideous hockey.

Agree with most of this, you're wrong about Lucas though..

I mean I guess it depends on what your own personal definition of a game breaker is...he's a point per game player over his last 80 games or so, and late last season he was known to "break games". Think you may be sleeping on him a bit

I've had some bad takes on this site before, I'll own up to it, I've said some dumb things out of frustration

But this one right here lol... ouch

Look at 2022. He went out and overpaid for a bunch of UFAs, and brought in Copp, Chiarot, Perron, etc. They proceeded to finish just 5 points ahead of Philly, and those 5 points were the difference between getting Michkov and Danielson. What puts Detroit in a better place right now, Chiarot, Copp, and Danielson or Michkov and close to 10 million in capspace? That’s what people are criticizing Yzerman for.

Michikov didn't want to be drafted by Capitals or Coyotes. Apparently he wanted to play in Philly and there was a secret meeting.

Sounds like a potential character flaw to me. Yzerman has zero toleration for poor character. Look how fast he exiled both Vrana and Walman.

^ And this is the reason I keep returning to this thread. It's the gift that keep on giving! :sarcasm:

His name was "@VeteranPresence". I doubt he'll be returning for awhile.

Yes - 1st game replacing the starter suggests Cossa is a bust :sarcasm:

Big moment for Cossa to bear down and get the W. You could see him flash the potential, especially in the shootout where he made two really good saves. It wasn’t the plan to play him in the NHL this early, but wouldn’t be surprised if he gets more games later this season.

Raymond, Larkin, Edvinsson, Seider were incredible in this game. Edvinsson is provably sneaking under the radar this year for a lot of people. More EVP than Lane Hutson who has his own 50 page thread.

Hm, that’s a bad take I think. Raymond is, if anything, a game breaker. He’s shown it his whole career, both internationally and with his teams
