He is very clearly a middle pair dman. Problem is if you are giving a 2nd pair guy $5+ mil, he better be a pretty standout 2nd pair guy, either on the offensive side or defensive side and DDK is not really either, I think most would agree

IMO it's pretty similar to the Tanev deal but with UFA years.

Uh okay, most of those guys were signed years ago. The cap has increased then, thus contracts are getting bigger. This isn't rocket science. Or do you think Toews deserves more than Crosby too?

The reaction is a bit interesting, UFA D men are going for 5+ mill, so we lock our guy up for that instead of grabbing some other random D man next year for the same price (Or more) and people are calling it dumb? Plus he is basically our best D shut down guy at this point.. I think its the going rate and with assuming a cap increase over the contract time it won't be a bad at all?

Uhh not really though. Only 4 UFA D men in the past 4 years have signed for 5+ mill but sure whatever helps your argument on this not being an overpayment I guess
