Once Mrazek is resigned, It sounds like Detroit will have a 2nd buy out window. Maybe Holland buys out Howard. He's going to have to do something here.

He can put Franzen on LTIR for a couple of years, then trade him to Arizona when his salary goes down to $1m.

It's pretty brutal because he's a blackhole possession wise and doesn't really generate anything on the ice either. He's really not a 5M dollar defender. I don't even think he's worth a penny over 4M. He's going to be 27 years old this season... that isn't young. Nothing is suggesting he's trending upwards in anything. If you think it's a good contract... I don't know what to say but good luck.

And now the Red Wings long-term cap is becoming pretty bad as well. Not sure I like any of their recent moves and this just really shows me they are really desperate.

Money isn't the part that makes this brutal. It's the 6 years and 3-year NTC for the guy.

but I guess Detroit gives every player a NTC looking at their roster

DDK is getting this much money because that's how the market is playing out, not because of his skills. Unfortunate.

I've always followed the Wings and Dekeyser. They were the rival that I actually respected. Continued to watch them when they went to the West. In today's world the internet allows people to watch games of multiple teams, whenever you want.

obviously he's an eastern conference fan. he must know more than Wings fan.

Hey Wings, thanks for totally ****ing our RFA negotiations with Murphy and Stone. Really appreciate that. We bail you out on Datsyuk just to have you turn around and do us like this? This is how you're using that cap space we gave you? To totally **** up comps for RFA negotiations? This is basically what we gave OEL and Goligoski.

It's amazing that so many posters don't understand the going rate for certain types of players. Also, LOL at the poster who said he was was surprised that he didn't take less. Have you been paying attention to salaries in any sport for well-forever?

DeKeyser is getting overvalued here by wings fans. I've watched quite a few wings games over the last couple years and saying he's one of your best Dman isn't saying a lot, as the wings D sucks (no offense, just lack of talent right now).

Rielly and Trouba are not comparable, both are 5 years younger and have way more potential. In fact both are better than him right now.

Still, sorting by cap hits, DeKeyser comes in at #42 for D in the league. Comes in at just under Goligoski, J-bo, and same as Andy Greene and Edler.

Sounds about right when you look at it that way. I'd say he's on the same level as Goligoski, Edler, J-bo. Greene might be slightly better.

It's the going rate for these guys :help:

Wow does this ever make Jake Gardiner and Morgan Rielly look like steals

Morgan Rielly is only 22 years old and is signed for 5 years he will be a UFA when his deal is done. DDK only had 1 year of RFA and then 5 years as a UFA so naturally DDK will be higher in that case. Wait till Rielly hits 28 years old and you're paying him close to $7 million then.

So, what you're saying is Wings fan, me, and others are right...

The reaction is a bit interesting, UFA D men are going for 5+ mill, so we lock our guy up for that instead of grabbing some other random D man next year for the same price (Or more) and people are calling it dumb? Plus he is basically our best D shut down guy at this point.. I think its the going rate and with assuming a cap increase over the contract time it won't be a bad at all?
