If Clifton got $3.3, Holl should get right around there too. He was completely mis-used in TO and we all know it. They asked him to carry a pair, and play too many important minutes. That’s not his game unless it’s the bottom pair.

It’s not the contract that’s bad. He was getting at least that. I actually thought he’d get over $4 million. The question is, what is Detroit expecting? If it’s to play to his strengths, he’ll be fine as a supporting dman. If it’s to carry the second pair, it’ll be bad.

We’ve seen it 1000 times. When players are forced into the wrong role, it goes sideways. Ben Chiarot last year. He’s not being brought in to be the savior.

This is the guy that was so bad in the playoffs that it became a National story line. What in gods name is Yzerman thinking? He might legitimately be the worst regular player in the nhl.
He's not the ideal signing, but Red Wings need placeholders on defense. They've got one of the best defensive prospect pipelines in the NHL, by the end of this contract Holl is probably an overpaid #7.

He seems like a good guy, but man, I really, REALLY couldn’t stand his play on the ice. Terrible on breakouts, tonnes of mistakes all over twice, got caught out of position like crazy for a supposed defensive specialist. Happy that we’ll be replacing him with someone else, and definitely think this is a poor signing for the Red Wings.

If they need a placeholder, just wait till guys start hitting waivers in the Fall. No need to to give way too much money and term to a UFA to be a placeholder.

Based on what everyone is saying, i don't like this signing. But when I look up his hits, it looks like he put on some nasty hits against Johnny Hockey and Yamamoto. He puts up about 15-20 points and plays 18+ minutes per night.

Maybe he sees something in him that is useful? Leafs are a shit org and are known to misuse players. Usually when players leave Toronto, they flourish.

Remember when Yzerman was the worlds best negotiator and it had nothing to do with taxes?
Holl was being speculated by some as high as like 4 x 4.

Holl is 0.6 mil per year more than Luke f***ing Schenn.

People are overreacting based on the memes about what everyone thought was gonna happen for "right handed free agent defenseman"

He's not a placeholder though.

He's a very negative impact player unless he's deployed exactly the way he needs to be.

The Leafs got scored on virtually every time he was on the ice and if not they were wildly outchanced. This might be Treliving's best movie, the Leafs goaltendind and D will breath sighs of relief at the extra downtime they'll get.
Not sure about that AAV either, Holl is a best a replacement level bottom 5-6/healthy scratch guy on a contender.

Schenn at this point was a 5 times better player at holl

They played on the same team.

I don't hate Chariot's game. I think he was a good add. I don't care about "overpaying" because Detroit have so much cap space they can burn it however they want and still have tons of space left over for a McDavid or two.

Exactly. I’m surprised he didn’t get $4+. He had no business playing the role the Leafs asked of him to in the playoffs. He’s just not a pair carrying dman.

Thank god I will never have to watch this guy play with the Leafs again!

Why Detroit felt the need to give him that much money is beyond me. This guy is a #6 at best.

Probably, yeah. Still worlds better than Kyle Dubas lol.
We'll see what he does with the Pens. I hate the leafs. But I don't think Dubas was bad there. The only really dumb move was Murray.

But I'm also talking about Yzerman's drafting. People praise him for Seider. But he also drafted Connolly, Koekkoek. Zadina's not really working out.

He was never in a position to carry a pair. He was just the guy who was the detrimental piece on every pair he played with. Jake Muzzin hid his deficiencies for a time. This guy's positioning and puck decisions are horrendous. He has no offensive ability to speak of, but always jumps into the play.

Zadina wasn't an Yzerman pick so you may want to try that one again...

Yzerman didn't draft Zadina. The other players you listed as busts were from like 10 years ago.

Zadina was a Holland pick, but Yzerman is being real Holland like today, so I'll allow it.

He got more hate than he deserved in Toronto. He's a serviceable bottom pair guy....but damn, that's more money and term than I expected someone to give him and I am extremely thankful we moved on from him.
