I thought Chiarot was the reason Seider had a poor season by his standards.

I didn't know Seider had a poor season. It looked to me like he was overused in every tough situation. I think he was placed on the hardest defensive role than any NHL dman in the world last season. He's only what, 23?

To be fair, he also made a big mistake with Andrew Copp.

His recent UFA signings were pretty bad.

In that same breath... it's also probably important to consider that despite Stevie Y being at the helm of the Red Wings; it may not be all that enticing of a place to play.

The team hasn't been spectacular. The weather can suck. Detroit as a city, maybe doesn't have the best reputation as the most desirable one to live in the US.

Obviously he was able to attract Patrick Kane and Alex Debrincat, but beyond that, it's been a lot of guys who are there because Detroit had a ton of cap space and can pay them well.

yzermans options since taking over and starting a rebuild era :

- if you dont like any ufa alot dont sign any and keep the team weak
- sign the best ufa you can even if you dont highly rate him in effort to get team rolling towards better days

and thats what he did in the cases of guys like holl n copp , brought in some vets that no doubt fit the culture to help stabilize the team for young guys coming up even though he had to over pay . but that didnt matter because cap space during a rebuild isnt very important . but copp being there to mentor young centers on a two way game and off ice culture is of real importance

Already pissed away a 2nd round pick to open up 3.4M in cap by dumping Walman.

There's a real cost to dumb signings like Holl.
Holl is not the reason they got rid of Walman

If he was actually any good, it wouldn’t have taken a 2nd to trade him

We’ve also had approx 917 top 3 round picks the last few years

Sorry, was thinking of the previous season.

Yeah that was rough. Chiarot was better, though I'm not sure if he was really better or he just looked better because Petry and Ghost were so f***ing awful.

Can't wait to see a repeat this year with Petry and Gustafsson.
