Holl had one great year in Toronto but was really bad in his last year. He can be good when he’s on his game but he’s inconsistent.

Are the clubs, especially ones trying to compete, that don’t make mistakes along the way? Yzerman made a mistake signing this guy, but all GMs make mistakes. It’s whether they can accept their mistakes (and therefore fix them) that determines if their club can grow.

To be fair, he also made a big mistake with Andrew Copp.

His recent UFA signings were pretty bad.

Does Yzerman accept his mistakes and fix them? Or does he allow his ego to determine what’s best for the club to move forward in its development into a winner?

Copp isn't popular but he's fine, he plays a tough role and is an easy player to dislike... I get that. I'm not a huge fan of him but he is serviceable and should for the remainder of his deal. Plays tough match ups and will likely put up 35-40 points this year.

The problem is it’s not one mistake. It’s Holl, Copp, Chiarot, Husso, etc

As somebody who hated Chiarot all year his first year, he and Copp haven't really been that bad. They're both plugs signed while the kids develop.

Holl was a bad misstep because he was signed to also be a plug, until Steve realized Petry was available. Problem is, Petry also sucks.

I don't believe Yzerman would make a *mistake* like this , imo it was calculated , he is a genius and would a genius sign Holl to 3 years 3.4? All part of the plan boys

What are the mistakes with them? Good players to help the kids while on inflated contracts they are short term. It's not like Yzerman signed a mid-pairing D to a 8x9.5 million dollar contract.

And which ones are the etc? As you try to make it sound like there are numerous more mistakes.

I appreciate the number of people concerned about Detroit's cap while Larkin/Seider/Raymond are all locked in long term and they'll likely head into 25-26 with Edvinsson, Kasper, Mazur, and one or both of MBN/Danielson all on ELCs.

I disagree. Husso was injured last season, looked really good in pre season last week. If Husso was healthy and played like he is fully capable of, Wings make the playoffs. What more can you ask for from a team trying to cap their rebuild?

Not one player you mentioned hurt the Wings cap space or prevented them from signing someone. I like Copp, Chiarot and Husso. Holl was the only disappointment of that group.

yzerman got lucky drafting russians but now he is lost
