You have what seems to be a trade which is perfect for both teams. It's one of those trades which everybody likes, because the players involved, needed a change of scenery.
 
so many ex CBJs and NYRs on each team. Brassy, Dorse, Nash, Moore, Stralman. Prospal, Gaborik, Anisimov, Dubinsky, Erixon.

Last but not least, the man who has been both more than once and still have not played an NHL game, steve delisle.

We got the better end of those personnel. I wasn't too high on Clowe at the deadline. I had my hopes with Brassy even though Clowe came up big in the first game after what was at the time a 1-2-3 1st period.

I've scanned the Cloumbus boards from time to time, and it seems like the honeymoon is over for a growing part of their HF fanbase.

There is a consensus that the players they lost were redundant and this was exactly the type of trade they needed (just like the Nash trade was for us), but I get the feeling that some believe that Gaborik may not have been the right player.

Gaborik is basically the poster-child for the player type: "brings nothing outside the scoresheet" and those can be valuable as well, but Gaborik isn't even bringing it on the scoresheet this year. I still maintain that there has been a visible decline in his game, or more specifically his skating and shot.

I'm very happy about the trade.
 
Brass' issue has been bringing it consistently. In a small sample here in NY, he looks really good. His vision and creativity are something that we were missing. If he can maintain this level of play, he'll be a terrific acquisition.
 
Seems to have really elevated his game from CBJ days (limited viewing I gotta admit). Excited to see what this kid can do over an 82 game season. Consistency has always been an issue for him however.
 
Still holding off on the celebration for Brassard. I liked him during his draft year, and he's been playing excellent hockey here thus far, but he's previously gone long stretches where he looks great, only to disappear for 12-15 games.

Again, not bashing the kid. He's been phenomenal since he arrived and I hope this was the change he needed to finally realize some of his potential.

His overall play may have been on a 2nd line level, but his production so far has been on a 1st line level.

I'm cautiously optimistic about Brassard. I like him and he has upside, but I've yet to see him have a big impact out there. He makes an individually nice play here and there, but he doesn't dictate play and force the opposition back like say Stepan, Zuccarello, or even Hagelin. Right now he doesn't contribute much outside his points, especially at ES.

Right now he is like a Mike Ribeiro. Ribeiro produces more than say David Krejci, but who in their right mind wants Ribeiro over Krejci?

But until this year, Stepan looked a lot like Brass out there: Little impact overall, but with a few fantastic plays sprinkled in here and there. Hopefully he can like Stepan figure out how to bring it consistently.

What it comes down to though is that we dont need 1st line production/impact from him. We need a solid 2nd/3rd C depending on if Richards is for real right now or if he's just on a little hot streak.

Even if he cools off, Brassard is still a 2nd C. He's good (not great) but good in the defensive zone and makes big plays every once in a while.
 
Like everything about the kid thus far. Especially his battle/compete level, was not expecting that.

As 2k2 and Trxjw mentioned, issue has been consistency. If he can find that here, tremendous.

Not just consistency(he's had a point in 7 of the 12 games he's played which is not bad), but is he the kind of player that is gonna lose puck battles in the playoffs? He's very good on the offensive side of the game, still not sure he is the kind of player that can win battles for the puck, gets knocked around pretty easy.

Offensively, gotta like his natural instincts. Up until last night his FO% has been a nice surprise too.

Listen, I was a fan of the trade; and for obvious reasons, still am. But if you - or anyone else here - expects Brassard to keep up that kind of ppg pace over the long term, you will be sorely disappointed. There is zero chance he replicates that over an 82-game season. Don't get me wrong - I like Brassard so far. Just trying to temper expectations, so when he inevitably goes into a slump this board doesn't explode with "HE SUCKS. OVERRATED. HIS CAREER IS OVER. TRADE. SEND HIM TO THE A. WAIVE HIM."

What i call the video game psychology, if a player doesn't produce soon enough, toss him and go get the next hot commodity.
 
We could have taken back 3 pairs of rubber boots and we still would have won the trade getting rid of Mr Softie Gabby and his... I might try tonight and I might not attitude . I think he has KHL written all over him after next season anyways...

For me, it's more a confirmation of the fact that getting rid of Gaborik dosen't seem to be a bad choice. He isn't producing in Colombus either. I don't expect Brassard to be the player Gaborik should have been.
 
I'm gonna go out on a limb and say Brassard finishes next year with more points than Gaborik. I'm also gonna go out on a limb and say he scores 65 points, next year.
 
Since the deadline he and Zuuc have easily been the most productive and effective skaters, imo. They have been the difference makers.

Hope your right. That would give us some incredible center depth if we have 3 centers all possibly putting up over 60 points each.
 
IMO I would just sign this team and keep them around for awhile. They're a good enough team to win the cup IMO. Especially with Hank. Add Dorsett and Kreider and Miller for next year (If they don't do it this season) and give them a shot for the next few years.
 
Brassard has been great. The only thing that he's had problems with is occasionally over stick handling the puck and losing possession. It seems to happen more frequently when he is playing on poor ice, such as last night.

Otherwise I've been pleased with his overall effort.

Next year will be interesting. I think ~18 goals and ~35 assists are reasonable expectations. If he could put up 2nd line numbers playing solid D as the #3 center that would be a huge boost for the club.
 
I think the timing of the second trade really helped Brass and Moore. Had there been one huge trade this past summer, I don't think you would have had the same compete level from Brass and Moore that you did get.

The infusion, to the CBJ, from the Rangers this past summer, coupled with getting Bob (who is known for being very dedicated and a hard-worker), and Foligno, who seems to be from a similar mold, kick started the passion in the room and the never-say-die attitude the CBJ seem to have now. Had Brass been traded before the new guys exhibited the new attitude, you might have gotten a guy who didn't play as hard as he has been.

Dorsett would have been the same guy no matter what and Moore has been labeled "a good kid", so he might be the same guy no matter where he ended up (although the fight was surprising).

He's a 50pt player. He's having a very solid run for us, but to think that all of a sudden he's going to outscore Gaborik next season is a bit crazy.

He is absolutely better than a 3rd line center, but he gives this team legit 2nd second line and that is going to make him and us alot more dangerous.

Granted, he could find himself in a situation where a change of scenery and a reduced amount of pressure to prodice has allowed him the freedom to play a more relaxed game thereby allowing him to exceed prior career highs, but i don't expect it.

If he can give this Rangers team 40-50 points from the 3rd line position, then that would be spectacular.

Right now, he plays with Nash. At worst, he's the 2nd line center. He's putting up 2nd line center production. (Actually, he's putting up 1st line center production.) That's fine by me.

Regardless of who he is playing with, on the Rangers depth chart, he's behind both Stepan and Richards.

Until Richards is bought out in summer of 2014
