I've heard from some of my friends that there has been tons of interest in him from other clubs. Why did CLB give him to us after all this time refusing other teams?

Obviously not enough interest to pay the price demanded by CLB. And from what I've read, his development had stagnated, maybe a change of coach and environment was what he needed.

Yes, but unless Sather said he wanted Brassard or there wasn't a deal, they could have kept Brassard and given us someone else. Why give him up now? Was his development in CLB stagnant?

Columbus was asking for a 1st rounder + for Brassard for years. No one was willing to pull the trigger because he was still a ~40 point center. Everyone thought he would do well outside of Columbus, but no one wanted to pay the price of a 60 point center when he was only producing 40 points.

With the trade last off-season that sent Nash away, the Blue Jackets had an abundance of forwards, specifically centers. It pushed Brassard down the depth chart. From all the reports the Rangers specifically asked about the 3 players they received. Moore, Brassard and Dorsett. The Rangers had been watching them for a long while, some all the way back to their draft year, ala McDonagh and Prust.

Still so pleased by how Brass has played as a Ranger. Maybe it's still early, but he's pretty much been the same player every night. His passes are crisp and accurate. His vision and creativity is a notch above pretty much everyone on the team. Let's hope he keeps at it and he was just a late bloomer. Plenty of talent for him to man the 2nd line center position for years to come.
