Time to pump my own tires. I said this guy was going to be a big time contributor here. He just makes so many smart little underrated plays that you miss most of the time. Yes, he's prone to his fair share of mistakes, (his pass right to a caps player right infront of our net) but he does so many other things that go unnoticed. Perfect example is drawing a defender to him and tapping the puck down the boards to where Boyle picks up the puck for his goal. Any one of our other players would have just swallowed that puck and it would have turned into a scrum along the boards or put it into the corner where there's no scoring opportunity. If Boyle never scored there, no one would have even thought twice about that play.

He's a very heady player with the puck. He's starting to settle down into the playoffs. Looked a little jumpy in the first game. Still think he would look better in a puck possession system, but as long as he keeps producing I can't complain!

Torts also had him out with under 5 minutes to go. Says something about his trust in Brassard, which is a very good thing. From all the reports we've heard so far he plays best when he's got a coach that trusts him, puts him in a role for him to succeed, and just lets him go out and play.
 
Gorton deserves all the credit on Brassard. He saw the skill set and under utilized skill set being wasted in Columbus to be frank.

Brassard gets dealt from the Bluejackets and starts to produce... same can be said when the Flyers traded for Voracek... its a shame it didnt work out for Filatov when he got traded to the Senators..... so more than likely if you traded from the Jackets, you turn into a solid NHL player....
 
Not really fair to say Brassard gets traded and then begins to produce. He was always a good player in Columbus, and actually was right on par with Gaborik in terms of production at the time of the deal. Hopefully with this trade though he really begins to flourish, and takes that next step. He has the talent to be a star.
 
From watching Columbus games in the past I knew this was the talent he had. It's all about consistency and self-esteem. He has always had the talent and skills to be a very good 2c.

He looked very good with Boyle on his wing as well helping him on faceoffs.
 
There's a reason this guy was picked #6 overall. Brassgod is just a great addition to the Rangers and I'd love to see him as our #2C for the next few years.
 
Brassard is a creative little offensive player. This team needs more of that.

Hes a bit scary in the defensive zone, however. I think coupling him with Boyle is a good idea.

i hate when people use this logic. as time goes by it doesnt really matter where the player was drafted.. because we can also say this there was a reason Jessiman was picked 12th overall... :help:

And there was a reason he was picked 12th overall.... Doesn't mean he used his skillset correctly

He NEVER had a skillset on par with the top talents from '03 much less any drafts first few rounds, he was a 'specimen', hence the name.


Brassard always had the skill, question was how would it translate to the Pro game.

Odd thing to hate lol. Just that he's had a ton of potential and hopefully can reach towards it more than he had been. I would argue the reason Jessiman was picked is b/c of his potential especially in pre-lockout rules NHL. Also I'd argue in favor of ineptitude and incompetence from the NYR

They are a good match, but we can't afford having our two best FO guys on the same line. They are both at 60% for the playoffs thus far, while Stepan is below 50% and Richards is even below 40%.
 
My issue with Brassard is consistency, he needs to bring the fire every game. he was great offensively and defensively. Do it again next game.

That is probably because they have shared the duties and only taken the ones that are their strength. Also, it is easier to "cheat" on face-offs knowing you have a legitimate 2nd center out there.

First game he played 12 minutes. Next game he played 16 mins over 4 periods and was our best FO guy. Then last night 16 minutes and first unit PP, took a stick to the face for our first PP his second shift of the game, later on scores a goal and has 2 helpers.

I think he's been doing very well for a guy who skates with Taylor Pyatt as one of his usual linemates.
