Gaborik was playing top line minutes against top line talent. Totally different situation for Brassard. That's just part of it, no need to go further about them playing with totally different teams, scenarios.

He has been good, totally what I expected being a fan of his before most of you knew he was a hockey player. I've raved about his offensive game on here for over 6 years. But if you don't see that the Pens game was a totally walkover, I don't know what else to say but good luck.

So you don't count the "walkovers"? By that logic we should never count as a negative (or as a game statwise) when we play in Montreal. Those games are just as atypical on the other side. Right? Just trying to understand.

How am I not saying its a win? I think it is. That was not what was being pointed out here. My mere suggesting that Brass has at least been on par with, not worlds better than Gab has been for Columbus. Two different circumstances. Truth is both trades have done something to balance out both teams lineups.

My beef has never been the talent we got back in the trade, just wanted to at least recoup one high pick in the deal, but I know those picks are not popular on a site called HF .

I liked all the players we got back for years. Two years ago after training camp I posted here about trading Anisimov in a possible Brassard deal.

This organization wants to make a push to win now. I wonder how much the move had to do with the fear of a Richards decline so bad that they had to get a guy who could play Center. If DB is the best they could do I guess there was really no choice.

Dorsett needs to get back to game shape, shame he wasn't healthy, would've been the key to this deal for the 'win now' movement.

I agree with the bolded, especially since Dorsett was injured. If not a pick, then another prospect should have been included.

What agenda? You tell me.

Also care to debate the fact that the Pens game wasn't an absolute cake walk and easily the most lopsided game this season? Has Moore scored since then? Has Clowe had a multipoint game since? Has Boyle ? Richards didn't have one until last night against an AHL team.

Your right, no evidence that it was a throwaway.

Moore isn't going to score often since he's not really an offensive D-man. I never claimed Moore would come in and score a bunch.

Clowe has played fine. I've been happy with his play save for a game or so. I think that 4M or so is a solid number to sign him for.

And you know what agenda. You've been pushing this anti-Brassard agenda the minute the trade was made and now you are just distorting the facts to fit it. Why do you think I am far from the only one calling you on it?

Actually, all of the old ones too ;)

And where did they get that depth? From the draft, with one good trade thrown in there !

YEAH! Like the 1993-1994 New York Rangers with Messier, Hudson, MacTavish. Yup! All home grown draft picks. Good thing we drafted Messier! :)

Only C we drafted on that team was Nemchinov.

You are the Lord of the flies I give ya that Jon ;)

My agenda is the same. Keepin it real, not fanboy to the max like people tend to do after a handful of games that largely gets inflated around here. This was about the numbers, not about impact, which I already noted has been good for the team. In the short term.

Yep, that team without a doubt is the exception, not the rule. Like always, here in NY somehow the mentality that we should shoot for the exception because hockey is different here really sounds familiar, some would say quite old and dated.

Sidenote, Neil Smith made some trades with Centers that led to getting Messier in the first place. For many years we were in no shape to make trades with that kind of impact cause we drafted poorly, traded our picks, and gutted the system of anyone that was worth a damn, and guess what, that was all to 'win now'.

Devils won three Cups while rarely having a drafted center on their roster.

A team with a HOF GM, two hall of fame, maybe best at their position ever players in net and defense(arguably), won many Cups? Wow, one would think they would have just toiled and burned :madfire:

I know, without any drafted centers, it's surprising they made the playoffs.

Ridiculous.

Different scenarios entirely for both players, you can't compare, and even if you did you are including that joke of a Pittsburgh game where he had 4 points, and last night he had two. Those games were both blowouts where almost every forward was on the scoresheet. That should tell you something about those games.

Gaborik performed well in a lot of those "joke" games last year and in 09-10, in which he would pad his stats when the game was over, or would only score in bunches. That doesn't help the team, just sayin

Yeah, but you were saying that the Rangers were the exception (regarding CENTERS), not the rule, and that's simply not the case. How about the Kings with Stoll and Richards? The Hawks had Fraser and Madden. 'Canes had Brind A'Mour, Cullen, & Weight. Ducks - Marchant, MacDonald, Pahlsson. Pittsburgh has two "big" Centers that they've drafted on their team. The Wings have remarkable talent drafting when you consider where Zetterberg and Datsyuk were drafted - but they're both still there and barley hanging on without Lidstrom.

The Rangers are hardly an aberration by having one or two drafted Centers on their roster. It's fairly normal.

Who are the Devils two best ever players at their position? Stevens and Brodeur? Stevens wasn't a Devils draft pick, either.

I'm laughing at the guy who was listening to Jackets fans about Brassard. The Jackets are a clueless organization who never put squat around Nash and Brassard. You are seeing what these two players can do with real talent around them.

The guy has been solid if not better since he got here. That's all I care about. Any one who says other wise is spouting rubbish.

Just goes to show you that Hockey is not a star-player game like basketball. Look at the NBA right now... You have Lebron James and Carmelo Anthony playing 40+ minutes per game, sinking in almost 50% of the teams points most nights. Columbus had "Mr. 1-on-4, I go through the entire team all night long" and still ended up in last place for most of their beginning years...

As sad as I am for losing Gaborik, I'm very glad we are able to score again.

Brassard is good when he is double/triple teamed.. Works great with the Rangers grind style (which I am starting to hate)

I'll reserve judgement with Brassard next season. We've seen players catch fire with a trade and fall off a cliff rest of the way. Wolski.

Apples and Oranges. Totally.

Wolski is the gutless, no heart, perimeter player from central casting.

Brassard could've been described the same way with CBJ.

Wolski first 9 GP with NYR: 3g, 5a 8 pts.

All I'm saying is, it's way too early to say he's turned a corner. His past yrs in the league suggest he is a very streaky player. It's not like he has more progressing to do, he's already 25 yrs old and has yet to break 50 pts and has terrible possession numbers.

He has a good pair of hands, though isn't as big as I like Centres to be.

Probably safe to think of him as a 40-50 point guy. Should be a 2nd line center on this team going forward.

Right now he's helping us win games which is the only thing that matters. When that changes, there will be plenty of time to toss him on the tracks and pick over his corpse.

But this is very short sighted approach and doesn't look at the long term.
