Good thing the NHL doesn't work that way. You score goals... you get points. His points in the Penguins game were all very nice passing plays. You can't take that away from him just to fit your agenda.

I never said I was taking that away from him. But it was a total whitewashing, that game was unlike any game this season, if you don't recognize that you should be watching more and typing less.

Even if he scores at half of Gabby's pace, the move was good given what it seems we have gotten in Moore and what I'm sure we will see out of Dorsett in the near future.

Gaborik was playing top line minutes against top line talent. Totally different situation for Brassard. That's just part of it, no need to go further about them playing with totally different teams, scenarios.

He has been good, totally what I expected being a fan of his before most of you knew he was a hockey player. I've raved about his offensive game on here for over 6 years. But if you don't see that the Pens game was a totally walkover, I don't know what else to say but good luck.

Also care to debate the fact that the Pens game wasn't an absolute cake walk and easily the most lopsided game this season? Has Moore scored since then? Has Clowe had a multipoint game since? Has Boyle ? Richards didn't have one until last night against an AHL team.

I'm not denying that the Pens game was a "walkover". It was, but those games happen and are what lead to guys having big offensive stats. I think your argument is pretty valid in most situations, but when we're talking about Gaborik on the other end it just doesn't hold water. That guy was the definition of a stat padder, and that's the main reason why I don't think he will ever be able to carry the mail for a team deep into the playoffs.

No one is doing that... But taking away games just to fit a person's agenda is like the Montreal fans that say "well, if you take away Price's bad games he'd be a Vezina candidate." Fair enough, but if it continues, when does the story change? If Brassard continues to play this way, he will not only no longer be getting tweener ice time (a dangerous assumption with Torts behind the bench), but opposing teams will be forced to pay attention to him. I concede that this is a rather big "if", but I'd be willing to bet that Brassard scores at at least 75% of Gaborik's pace moving forward. Would you be surprised if he pulled that off?

No I wouldn't, then again, two different situations.

I'm not gonna be upset with his play if he continues to do utilize his strengths as long as his weaknesses don't get in the way. His faceoff % has been fantastic, sans last night. If he just keeps that up he's good to go.

Gaborik is looking like the 2012-13 NYR Gaborik. 1 pt in his last 4 games.

And, while we're on the subject, let's be honest and say that Brassard's position is quite a bit more demanding in every facet than Gaborik's is.

Brassard is a 2nd line guy that's still got upside. He's young, he's talented, and certainly didn't have a lot of talent surrounding him with his former team.

And, I don't think your argument that Gaborik not producing against other team's best lines (which was the case here this year) really helps your case all that much. If he really is a 7.5/year player then he's SUPPOSED to produce against those top players. And, he didn't. Not the way he was supposed to. Not this year. Not on the PP.

I hope he finds his game in Columbus. I hope Brassard continues to step it up here in NY.

To be fair, Gabby rarely, if ever, played on the top line in New York this season. And Brassard played on the top line in Columbus. You're not really comparing peaches to peaches here. Both are top line players in C-bus, neither are top line players in New York. Both are quite streaky, Gabby costs a lot more. I love Gaborik, think his skill is other worldly, but do see how this trade potential could have been a win for NYR based upon needs.

How am I not saying its a win? I think it is. That was not what was being pointed out here. My mere suggesting that Brass has at least been on par with, not worlds better than Gab has been for Columbus. Two different circumstances. Truth is both trades have done something to balance out both teams lineups.

My beef has never been the talent we got back in the trade, just wanted to at least recoup one high pick in the deal, but I know those picks are not popular on a site called HF .

I liked all the players we got back for years. Two years ago after training camp I posted here about trading Anisimov in a possible Brassard deal.

This organization wants to make a push to win now. I wonder how much the move had to do with the fear of a Richards decline so bad that they had to get a guy who could play Center. If DB is the best they could do I guess there was really no choice.

Dorsett needs to get back to game shape, shame he wasn't healthy, would've been the key to this deal for the 'win now' movement.

We were weak up the middle, there's no doubt that Brassard is an upgrade over Powe, Boyle, and even Richards at this point. If anything has proven how important it is to be strong up the middle (goalie and centers) it's all of the recent Stanley Cup winners.
