He’s absolutely a franchise player.

However, much like Huberdeau, he can’t be the ONLY franchise player, and both would be doing better if they had remained the franchise player for THEIR franchises.

Johnny doesn’t miss games. Nobody gets clean licks on him. He’s still going to be elite when Fantilli hits his stride.

One of the least worrisome contracts in the league IMO.

And yes, I’d take him back tomorrow.

We disagree on the definition of franchise player if a franchise player needs other ones to look great. In Huberdeau's case, the Panthers rightfully identified Barkov as their franchise guy.

The panthers rightfully identified Huberdeau wasnt a franchise player.

Flames fumbled it.

Imo, if a franchise player needs other franchise players to perform... theyre not franchise player level. So, we'll fundamentally disagree on Gaudreau being one or not.

We'll see what happens. Unfortunsteky the only real losers rn look like to be the Flames. Columbus are probably happy with Gaudreau, Florida is elated with Tkachuk, and all the players involved are incredibly richer

Has Johnny Gaudreau cooked in his life? probably not and he doesn't need to. I'm sure he just gets his wife to cook the meals since she's at home with the baby and not having to work.
I mean iirc his nickname at BC was ham and cheese(or something like that) because he would have a ham and cheese sandwich every day 😂

He's making money and laying OSU girls every night. And the nonexistent Columbus hockey media leaves him alone no matter how bad he plays.

He probably considers the career move an overwhelming success.
Also, I assume blow is cheaper even in Ohio

With all due respect to Columbus, I figured he was basically done when he signed there. His priority is his family now. I respect that. But, his priority just isn’t being one of the best hockey players in the world. When he was hungry we was great.

I see a lot of hate on here about Johnny. But, there were some games where he really looked like one of the best players in the world. In terms of pure skill, I truly believe he was a top player in the league. But, he was so inconsistent. He never had the drive you need to have to consistently be a top player or be an elite playoff player.

These threads kill me. It's a few games into a season where the coach changed and then changed again. Also they have some new players in prominent positions. Of course this will affect any player. Watching him this year, I still see his ability to create space for himself and make some unbelievable passes. He may never hit 115 points again, but he will be a PPG player.
Johnny is fine.

nether do you, are you a NHL player?

playing for a storied franchise will bring out the best in a player..... and vice versa.

Anyone else feel the same?
Still skate and play with them actually. Absolutely outrageous comment. There are only so many jobs a typical player has pride and competes every night or they are out of the league.

If playing for franchises that hockey is important in is what brings the best out if a player why hasn't a Canadian team won a cup in 30 years.

because we've been totally seeing the best out of Chicago's entire roster for the last couple years amirite

Seriously. This is motivated thinking at its most extreme. "Only the kind of franchise I cheer for actually matters."

Got his big pay day and likely feeling comfortable in life and things.

Jackets aren't very good right now, so not a lot of talent to help him.

Little column A and a little column B

Gaudreau is still worth more than every player on the Flames team even with the contract.

I'd take him back in an instant. Want Pooperdeau?

A lot of folks who watch maybe two Jackets games a year are confidently asserting that he's cashed out.

54% xG
5.48 on ice shooting %

And a lot of folks are going to look stupid.

He's been buzzing in all but maybe one or two games. Looks like the same player.

Got paid based on a 115 point season

You might be thinking of Huberdeau.

Guys who are expected to consistently produce 115 pts get paid a lot more than $9.75m. Teams knew not to bank on Gaudreau maintaining that.

Johnny Regular Season got paid and is living nicely, out of the spotlight on a rebuilding team.
Well... no... considering he has already gotten paid.. a lot. for a life time

1st contract was worth 5 500 000
2nd contract was worth 40 500 000
----------------------------------------
46 million (40 million prior to his 115 point season

so he had already gotten paid tons prior his 100+ point season
now he is just getting paid even more so.

No, teams like Columbus, Phoenix, etc will not bring out the best in players.
Teams like Chicago, Detroit, Devils.... will

That is easy, that is the jacket lemar curse.

What is omitted from this clip, because it's unproven, is that allegedly the Canadiens knew all game long that McSorley had an illegal stick because a member of the Canadiens' staff went into the Kings' locker room and checked some of the sticks (remember this was before the second game in a row at the Montreal Forum, so all the Kings' equipment had been sitting in the locker room for several days and there were probably plenty of opportunities for someone to go in and poke around unnoticed).
-
The staff member identified McSorley's as the illegal stick (they might have found others too, but we'll never know because his is the one they challenged) and the Canadiens waited until the most opportune moment: the Canadiens were down by a goal with less than two minutes left. That was the time to strike.
