Should have stayed in Calgary and enjoyed all that winning theyve been doing
Usually when given the option star free agents more often then not sign with contending teams, something Colombus was far from. There's a reason the hockey world was shocked at that desicion.

We got used to free agents opting for contenders, this just shows me that Gaidreau didn't care about winning, even when he could have.

To be fair.....that is still significantly more winning than Columbus ;)
And their reward was picks that led to players like Honzek while Columbus got someone like Fantilli. It would have been better for Calgary to lose more and start a rebuild sooner

It’s amazing anyone would want to sign there.

No we didn't, we just imagine that.

Recently Hamilton signed in the middle of Jersey's rebuild, and Panarin and Fox signed with New York right after they sent out their rebuild letter. Rebuilding clubs use the UFA market all the time.

There's a reason the hockey world was shocked at that desicion.

Yeah, largely ignorance.

I'm more interested in having players on my team who want to make the team they're on better, not change the team they're on so that hockey is easier. It's a very silly idea that we have that competitive desire should result in going to a team that is already great.

I don't think he gives a crap about hockey

This is the type of ignorance we've come to expect when someone chooses the Blue Jackets. From all the reports I've seen, hockey is his entire life. No one would question a player like this if they signed in the Sun Belt or nearly anywhere else. Sign with a team where you don't have to work half as hard and people will sing your praises about what a winner you are.

I hope he's cooked. As a Flames fan I still have a lot of bitterness with the way he handled the situation with Calgary. Honestly... I'm glad his signing with Columbus has been a disaster. I know how important hockey is to him and in my mind CBJ is perfect for his career and SC dreams. Enjoy Columbus Johnny. :sarcasm:

I think you're going to be disappointed. Johnny is back to point per game in the New Year and Columbus is going to be riding up with Fantilli and company while the Flames are stuck rebuilding with Huberdeau.

I haven't been disappointed these past 2 seasons. Fantilli is 19 and highly unlikely to make a game changing impact on the team for another 3-4 years and by then Johnny will be 34 and definitely on the downside of his career. In fact he probably already is on the downside. Add in the fact that Columbus is a disaster of an organization and is most likely doomed to be a bottom feeder for many more years to come... So yes... I'm quite happy that Johnny Hockey is living and playing in Columbus for the next 5 years.

That’s cold.. but not as cold as Calgary!

Ayooo.

Nah but for real, I just wanna see this disagreement go.

Johnny will be fine. Or he won’t be. Maybe ok, that’s my opinion.

Oh my this is really rich. The Flames got 8 full seasons of him, in his prime, and had him under contract for bargain value the entire time. He should be worshipped by Flames fans for what he brought vs what he got paid. And anyone who thought he was actually going to re-sign with the Flames was living in La-La-land, including apparently the GM who conveniently forgot how they bent him over on his RFA deal in 2016.

Bitter? You should be incredibly thankful not just for what he brought when he did play there but also for not signing a retirement contract with your team.

Gaudreau is living the dream right now. Has a newborn, got married in 2021 i believe during Covid, got a new contract, no longer has to deal with the pressure playing in a Canadian hockey market, and he’s a dad in Ohio.

You never hear him talk about winning a Stanley Cup. Some players just aren’t motivated and he’s one of them.

I hate to break it to you, but repeating the same thing over and over doesn't make it any more factual.

He wanted to be in Philly, not Columbus.
