first time posting in a long long time ... JD and Gorts had a plan and that was excacty what Drury executed since the Buch trade . Their last draft , they drafted chippy kids, schneids , cuylle, berard, even vierling... then the beating by the Islanders in the home and home ,then the Tom Wilson bullying .... now in drurys defense he now , buch trade sucked but the player we got back is what we covet , he signs Goodrow , which I thought we overpaid for but as we watch him play this season, to me he is worth every penny...then he gets the BIG GUY out of Vegas a big deterrent from guys taking liberties out on players and yes , as you watch other teams know this, no more running MIKA with out repercussions , oh i forgot he locked up 2 of our main core guys for very good costs and got Turk on top...now he also has to deal with 5 1st rd picks , none of his, , all fowards , which as of now 1 is gone, the other took his ball and went home, Chytil went too early imo and he looks like it, then the 2 big guys are a combined 268 gp, 49g, 47 assists , ik their young BUT ? then he takes Othman which is a looking better then the other previous i mentioned ... Now the dealine moves , love the chemistry with conections with frankie v , motte , copp to troubs, as far as the picks and barron, could Barron be better then Copp, thats what we were hoping for buts not ready to contribute to this teams core guys and the window to win a cup... Drury got blais, hunt , goodrow , reaves, frankie V , Copp, and motte, all guys that fit the coveted motif that started with the 2020 draft and he gave up barron , Buch and picks, think about that? If drury is a real miracle worker , can he sign 2 0f the 3 or all 3 with copp, frankie v and motte, guys that are exactly what the doctor ordered for us to merge the rebuild without giving up any A prospects and have a full deck if we make a run at a bigtime player , id rather have the good quantity of depth which Drury just pulled off , we amped up for a run this year without giving up that much , now next year with these trades and all of our A prospects , he really couldn't have done it much better... Kudos Dury , now ranger fans , believe in him , he deserves it

Great post!

You should post some more.

I agree I was nervous with Drury's first TDL. But he did well in not rocking the boat much at all, if any. And rewarded his team in improvements they needed. We are suddenly strong up the middle with the additions of Cobb and Motte. And also improved our right side with Frankie V and the aforementioned Cobb who could slot in there very well. We added depth and a lot of mobility which is always great to have.

But before I all hail Drury, I want to see us win a playoff series.

I'd like to see us win a series too but I'm being realistic. We've exceeded my expectations, but this is still a work in progress that's going into battle with seasoned PO teams in TB, Carolina, Pitt, Toronto, Washington, Boston and even Florida who got shitstomped by the Lightning in 4 last year but will have learned so much from that. I'll take what we can get but this is just the setup for years to come.

I agree, but you are missing my point. All that happened today was designed to do some damage in the playoffs. Not just to make the playoffs,.. we already did that. All our additions are rentals, with the specific purpose to do well this postseason. Cause none of these pickups, will likely be here next year. We win one series, I'll see what Drury did today as mission accomplished.

Hindsight is 20/20. No organization makes every right decision. They made a decision to sign Kreider because he was a known quantity and a solid player. It wasn't a bad one either as he is having his best season and may score 50. I don't care if he's 30 as he can play another 5 years at a high level. There is no bleeding to stop quite frankly. The team is good, young, has elite talent, a good coach, and headed to the playoffs. The prospect pool is still top 3rd in the league and Kravs is still part of it and if in the off season he is traded then we will receive value in return. So much more good than bad with this team it's not even funny. You want to focus on the negative be my guest.

The prospect pool ISN'T in the top third of the league, it's closer to the bottom third at this point. And the "bleeding to stop," is that it's short numerous young top 6 forwards that it needs to be a true Cup contender both now and long term.

This will all be more apparent once we don't win a Cup this year and are short all those picks we gave away and we are no closer to competing against the Hurricanes and Avalanche of the world.

Too many people here think that you build into a mediocre playoff team and the job is done and rely on luck. Those types of teams rarely win. We don't measure up against the best of the best yet and never will at this rate.

How can you possibly know that before the playoffs have even started? We've either hung in there or straight beat up on a lot of these so called "elite" teams this season (Washington, Tampa, Florida, Toronto) and we just got MUCH harder to play against. This is just not a fair assessment

Will they win this year? Probably not. But just like most teams that eventually win it all they'll get some invaluable experience this year that they will take into the next postseason and try again.

You're acting like we're the Islanders of the last two years who had zero high-end skill and relied mainly on coaching, being incredibly opportunistic and clogging the neutral zone to get by. We're one of the most skilled teams in the league already and a lot of these players have no where to go but up right now. This is literally the perfect time to start taking a crack at it.

You don't care about winning. You care about being a peacock and analytics darling.

Where's Tampa, Washington or St Louis. You mention teams that have never won the cup. Where are there prospect pools?

You have an almost Socialist Utopia vision. This Utopian Team that will come together if only we just suck and sell off everything. It would be so beautiful. We'd have 4 or 5 Lafreniere and Kakkos but they'd all be playing elite hockey by now. All of the kids will play well, there are no busts. The lockerroom and leadership wouldn't be needed in this scenario because they are so mature for their age. Salary Cap isn't an issue because all the kids take massive discounts after they breakout. This would be a dystopian timeline.

This is YEAR 1 OF COMPETING. PLEASE STOP

Carolina has been competing for 4 years now? why no cup?
Colorado has been competing for 5 years now? why no cup? why can't they even get past the 2nd round?
Tampa has been competing for 11 years? why did it take year 9 and 10 to win?
Why did it take Washington 11 years to win?

We haven't even finished year 1. Haven't even played a Playoff game. Stop.

How is getting 4 rentals a set up for years to come?
We were a good team.
We r now a great team(on paper)
The team wont be this good next season
Up to GG to put the pieces together
We will have a real third line now
We will have a 4th line thats much closer to a 3rd line now.
These moves were made to win the cup.
If shesty is shesty
If our pp stays great
We can win it.
Our 5v5 scoring is certainly better
Our speed and overall defense is better.
Our shot differential should be much better now.
All the pressure is on GG
He was given exactly what we needed.

new content for @Machinehead

Are we really concerned about trading 2 seconds, a third and 2 fourths along with a prospect that wasn't going to Crack this lineup and was outside the organizations top 10 prospects?

This team got a whole lot better and deeper 5v5 and on the PK. They already have a top 2 PP and with the players they added will have a very good PK.

This team is going to make some noise in the playoffs.

We “gave away” a fourth, third and two seconds. And Barron who at 24 unfortunately was not cracking our lineup. And got a 27 year old player that can help us now and moving forward for the three main assets. Yes I believe they will sign him. The prospect pool is a bit lower because many of our prospects are good enough that they are already NHLers. Third youngest team in the league (maybe a bit older now) and you think there’s a lack of young forward talent? And our prospect polls this year were so much fun because there’s still a lot there to look forward to.
I don’t know why you are so incredibly negative but I’m glad I don't think like you on this.

How can you possibly know that before the playoffs have even started?

No one "knows," anything, but looking at the roster I'm making an estimate compared with historical precedent. The statistics, as much as everyone here likes to dismiss them, are highly against us... for a reason.

We've either hung in there or straight beat up on a lot of these so called "elite" teams this season (Washington, Tampa, Florida, Toronto) and we just got MUCH harder to play against. This is just not a fair assessment.

It's absolutely a fair assessment, it's just not conclusive.

But it's highly probable.

Will they win this year? Probably not.

Exactly. Just like I said. Probability. They are not favorites. They are not in the top group of favorites.

And they won't be next year or the year after or any year unless they solve the center depth problem, and unless the kids they already have come along. What we have right this instant is not enough to win.

But just like most teams that eventually win it all they'll get some invaluable experience this year that they will take into the next postseason and try again.

Ok, and? I don't disagree with that.

I'm saying there's a lot of work to do and they better get to it, not that they should be tanking. But they SHOULD be considering some unconventional moves for a "playoff team." Because unless they want to get stuck as the Winnipeg Jets, they need to be making moves to make themselves the Blackhawks or Lightning.

I'm not acting like that, you are inferring that absent context for it.

What I'm acting like is that we are not talented or skilled enough to be a favorite, everything shows that (analytics, betting odds, expert predictions, etc) other than homerism on this board, and that favorites ALMOST always win the Cup.

I don't know why people revolt so heavily against the idea that a team that gets absolutely dominated night in and night out at 5v5 has a ways to go.

We need more talent and skill. Maybe they don't like the idea because it means some of their favorites will inevitably get pushed out. But you can keep your favorites and be a 5 seed that gets eliminated every year or we can continue to build into a long term contender.

prospect pools generally take a hit when u have high end prospects that become nhlers. laf, kakko, fox, chytil, miller, schneider are all young players. they arent prospects because they are in the NHL now. if ur constantly at the top of the prospect rankings its because your team sucks.
That’s exactly what happened with this year’s ranking dropping so far, which is why it’s silly to be complaining about it. They still have a solid group of prospects, numerous D+1 through D+3 guys progressing well, and are still one of the best u23 groups around the league.

They still will most likely have their first this year and should still have it next year. The other picks can be recouped easily like they’ve shown they can do in the past
