I will say this. As disappointed as I am with the pick, the Coyotes made be feel a lot better immediately after.
Seems like they wanted a D no matter what. They were rumoured to be very interested in Reinbacher so they took the next one on their list I guess.

I don't dislike the player but just the way things were being talked about it feels like we could have missed big on some other massive talents in the top ten. We just won't know any time soon unfortunately. The honeymoon phase for Hughes and Gorton is over though I can tell you that much

He has tools, I’m not saying he’s a bottom pairing guy. But Seider and Heiskanen have elite tools for a dmen.
Seider is just the opposite stylewise. Big, heavy game. A puck hog who loves to create offense with the puck on his stick. Loves to hit big but otherwise rather solid and passive on defense. Reinbacher is completely different. More mobile, creates offense with his vision and elite passing as well as flying the zone, crashing the net in transition. Very active on defense. Unless Reinbacher stagnates completely which is unlikely to happen they probably have similar ceilings, are just different in style. For heavy possession based hockey you want Seider, for fast paced hockey you want Reinbacher.

I agree they are very different. Seider is taller, rangier (incredible wingspan), more dynamic skater, more creative, and handles the puck like a forward.

Reinbacher is better defensively and has good offensive tools, but Seiders tools are special.

You take what is offered. Don't understand to pick Reinbacher for need NOW when there's plenty of D's that will be available next year. It's not like Reinbacher comes in in September.

I will never understand treating a draft as if it's the UFA period...
Reinbacher said he’ll do as the org wants - he’s got an out clause in his Swiss deal

You're out to lunch. Reinbacher has generational hockey IQ, vision and passing. He can turn defense into offense better than anybody else and dominated the league. That's why he scored those points. He's the master of transition.

Pump the brakes with the hyperbolic hot takes. Generational........really? Why litter the boards with this stuff?.

How many of those guys are RD? I feel like no one understands that’s an important consideration.
He fills a huge need no question we need a 1 RHD since pk and Weber are no longer here. The only part that stings is we clearly drafted based on need rather than on BPA and potential. We will have other kicks at the can next year and the year following though. Hopefully the coming years aren’t influenced by needs or size and exclusively best player available. Same story different year unfortunately.

I'm old enough to remember when this team had dignity and a drive to win cups, a winning mentality. They were not glorious like from 1944-1979, but they were going for it.

I hear you though. I know you see my point, I just need to vent I guess.
Theres another side to the coin being overlooked.

Those were also times of players having zero autonomy, and no options. It’s ironic the Habs have mightly struggled post 1994 lockout once player autonomy started ramping up & they had more say & control over where they wished to play

Powder keg in here.

The Intel at the combine lines up with what Hughes said. Teams were calling but for Reinbacher at 5. They see Reinbacher as a future top pair defenseman.

They said if they had players in the same tier, their position would come into play. Feel that's clear from his comments that Reinbacher was in the tier after 4 and his positional value and projection put him to the top. Leonard being a winger probably busted that part of the evaluation.

Coyotes taking a Russian over Michkov shows that maybe some scouts aren't so sure Michkov is Kucherov rather a Tarasenko. Which was something many scouts were posing.

Hughes said it wasn’t for need, pushing back at Arpon.

The other truth is the Habs struggled more and more as the league got more international.

The Habs have had some international scouting hits too but the truth is they have and continue to struggle with the marginalization of Quebec in hockey. Even the early 90s compared to today the Quebecois talent in the league is a shell of what it was. The fight for a second tier talent like Dubois tells you all you need to know.
