Not going to pretend I like this pick but RHD is a huge need. If all pans out we having a top pairing of Guhle-Reinbacher two great two way dman that can do it all and play physical. Losing out on a potential offensive dynamo stings like hell though. Lost faith in the management the past week.

Doesn't matter. Hughes and co. took over midseason and made the draft picks.

Clearly context doesnt matter. I get it now...

I had Michkov personally, heck Leonard next but the overreactions are bordering pathetic. I knew people would act this way though

Feels like I've been on a rollercoaster the past few hours.

When the pick was announced I hated it. Then it immediately starting growing on me and as of 9:00pm I'm pretty damn excited about it.

Besides michkov who would have realistically been a better choice? Ryan Leonard would have been solid. But overall impact on a game, would he bring more impact than reinbacher could?

I honestly love this pick. His tools are very nice. VERY nice.
That's because you're now using rational thought instead of emotions, something a lot of people in this thread refuse to do.

They're banging their hands on the table and having a fit because somebody didn't do something they wanted.

I hate comparisons. I want qualities, I want to know what he has that the others don't. I want to know what are his technical abilities. This is how someone will sell him to me and others here.

The idea was you need big D to be successful I think we can say we have that now.

Guhle 6’3
Barron 6’3
Reinbacher 6’2
Xhekaj 6’3
It really is a promising young group. Hutson too...

But when we talk about drafting for 'need' I think we needed an elite scorer. Probably more than we did on the blueline.

Again, I hope for the best. I was wrong on the Price pick. It looks like I was wrong on Shane Wright too... so hopefully I'm wrong here too. But damn, I can't remember the last time we had a shot at a franchise scorer. I really did want Mich.

Why doesn't context matter? We've been 1.5 years into a rebuild. Hughes and his staff made the picks for the last two years. They're his players.

he was my 2nd pick, but Michkov was there.

still, Yotes 100% wanted Reinbacher, would explain why we didn't trade down.

also, you guys are f***ing brutal in this thread, no wonder why we're despised as a fanbase and nobody wants to play here.
100% this. Not my first pick, hell I may have even picked Perrault over Reinbacher.. BUT David was the Best D in this draft and if we didn't take him ( especially after getting DACH and NEWHOOK ) then another team would have.

Hughes always talks about ACCELERATED plan... Is accelerated really the way to go about a rebuild?

I'm not pissed but everyone knows I called this months ago. It was so obvious.

I just don't know how you don't trade down. Very happy with the prospect though.
I'm of the same opinion. Brilliant pick to have as a prospect, with RHD at a premium, big hulking and fast. Not sure if he's mean but can definately hold his own with men already.
Defensemen are never exciting picks, but ever so important. Hoping he matches our former #5oa in surprising everyone and becomes a true #1D .

What is off-puting is that we took him at #5 instead if trading down, but my guess is Arizona wanted him so Hugo took him there.

All in all a good 2 days: newhook and Reinbacher.

Remember, us fans have no insight into these guys. It is obvious hugo, MSL et cie are highly intelligent builders, they given us no reason to question any decision (except Mesar head scratcher) they have made so far.

I am starting to notice a trend with our top players: clean cut and good personalities. This culture shift is geared towards cohesion, and team unity - a potent mix in pro sports.

You are missing the context. Mtl didnt go into it planning to tank or rebuild. It just ended up that way. Last yr was the first, we are planning to be bad

Remember back in March, Brian Wilde saying on TSN690, not to be surprised if Habs likely selected David Reinbacher…

I will take time to look at him first. And read about him.

Does anyone have interview clips?

Definitely not what i was wanting.. but after shaking off the shock and underwhelmed feeling... I'll support our new prospect. I'm no expert so I hope the ones on staff made the right choice here... hope he has one hell of a season this year and becomes a stud #1 D ... cause we passed on sooooo many stud forwards to get him

I guess we will see how this draft pans out.

Depends on how you feel about their upside obviously, but imo, a #1 RD is a need to have. A top 6 powerforward is a nice to have.
so many scouts project him as a #2 future dman. Who would move a #5 pick for a 2nd pair dman? Only in Montreal
