No shit sherlock, we spent the latter part of Bergevin's tenure berating him for not acquiring a true PMD, cuz no one could pass it out of own zone after Subban and Markov left.

We already had a cupboard filled with promising Ds before the draft, so it's not like it was an urgent matter. And guess what genius, if your Ds can get it out, but if all they have to pass to is Suzuki and Caufield, we aren't gonna do better either.

My michkov, my Michkov, my kingdom for a michkov.

Great rebutal.

Stop pretending BS, I said right off the bat I liked Reinbacher as a pick in isolation.

You're so lost in your ridiculous and infantile battle vs a perceived "people", idiotically almagamating every opinion that doesn't fit Arpon's, oops, I mean, your opinion. Get a grip.

Want me to start naming your busts, great seer? Like chosing Boqvist over Hughes?

Go for it, I just armchair scout for fun as a hobby and I have no illusions that I'm some special talent evaluator.

Keep trying to make it personal. Just so I'm clear, the mature thing right now is to say things like "guess what genius?", "idiotically amalgamating", "get a grip", "arpons, I mean oops, your opinion" and "naming your great busts like Boqvist over Hughes".

Sorry my comments struck a nerve but there's also a possibility that when I refer to 'people', I'm not specifically referring to you. It's not like there's an absence of people losing their mind on the Reinbacher pick for a variety of different reasons.

The situation with Russia is pretty serious. You can't just toss out some cliche about winners and losers when an entire country has been disconnected from the global financial system. We had to cease all operations there, people lost their jobs.

And yet some teams have scouts there. So some are figuring out how not to be limp-dicked losers :)

Which teams have scouts in Russia?

Just FYI Russia is only cut off from the Western financial system, not the global one. It's economy is actually in growth right now.

Radu had his first KHL season at 22 years old. Where's the logic in your prediction? It's pointless.
Surely a superstar can outscore someone who was barely a star by the time he is 20 or 21? I'm not one of the ones who heaped all the praise and glory on the dude I'm one of the ones who is highly doubtful. How about at least matching the Great Jan Kovar who put up 63 points as a 23 year old or Kirill who put up 62 points as a 22 year old by the time he leaves the KHL ? Surely he should be hitting these numbers based on the hype? I'm simply trying to get a sense of what types of accomplishments will justify the furor.

I still talk to my old team. I'd like to bring them back one day. They haven't been able to find comparable jobs in the tech sector.

Michkov is random? Not the guy that people have had as 1B with Bedard for pretty much their entire hockey careers? Ok then.

As to your other point, regional scouting is important because HUGHES HIMSELF said oen of the reasons we didn't go for Michkov was an inability to see him in person. Seems kind of incompetent to me.

Well, of course. When you have the option, you draft talent. You don't go into Windows safe mode like the limp (expletive) they are.

I would have accepted a lot of things. Trading down... Drafting Leonard would have annoyed me, but not to this extent. Them drafting of the safest, most boring player combined with the baffling Newhook move is what really ground my gears (in combination with the last 30 years of course). The Slaf pick was strike 1 last year as well. I had him 6th on my list for his braindead hockey IQ.

In addition:
-I don't trust this drafting team. Bobrov has no history of success and sound like an egotistical moron... and Lapointe is from the Bicep club.

-They screwed up the tank this year, trying desperately to win random games in January for "tHe CuLtUrE." This is all on them, and they deserve whatever failure they get.

Their organizational philosophy seems to be continuing from previous regimes and seems to align with what someone like @Goldenhands wants. It is, however, the opposite of what I want.

This looks like it's headed for perpetual Bubble City.
I absolutely get why you are having a tough time being patient....feel the same way, it's just I see a huge difference towards the new regime versus the gong show Bergevin was running.

The new guys have changed literally the entire organization on and off the ice, and I think we will see this come together to make the habs a better team, and these guys will soon have this club doing good things......wish they had been here during Price's tenure.

Curious if you think, a former players agent knows what his players want? What they discuss?
Does this make a former player agent a good candidate for making a good GM?
I would certainly think it does.
In the case of Hughes, he has inherited a gong show of cap troubles, and a team spent to the max, and finished dead last. In some ways an awful spot to start, but in some ways, a good place to start.

We are on a path..........it's hard to be patient though....

Post Traumatic Bergevin Disorder

We all suffer from it to some extent...

Well almost all.

Former player agents don’t always have a good track record as GMs. So I don’t think that’s a good argument, IMO.

That said, Hughes also has Gorton to help steer the ship. They are clearly following a strategy (which I think has flaws) but it will take time to see if it works and to what degree. They can/will also get lucky along the way.

If MB brought this team a few wins away from a cup, Hughes can certainly do at least as much.

Yes Hughes spent better part of last 25-years as player agent but let’s not forget he ran summer hockey schools for the better part of last 30-years and coached minor elite programs full time which is why he knows the 2005/2006 birth year players from New England so intimately well + understanding this generation of players mindset / how to get through to them…

I don’t know of another agent who’s been as involved in tactical aspects of the game…

Hughes & MSL are unicorns in the hockey world

I’m waiting with abated breath till Hutson is NHL ready, I fully expect “position-less hockey concept” to kick into high gear. Will be interesting to see effectivity & leagues counter reaction

I was always curious about that.... did they do it for strategy or was it due to the depth they had on the NHL roster? Combo of the two?
I think it was a combination, but more the latter. It was the pre-cap era, and the Wings were big spenders in acquiring veteran talent. Honestly, Mike Illitch's checkbook belongs in the Hall of Fame in place of Ken Holland.

First thing he said after the 2002 cup: this was a good investment for me. He made dozens of millions from that cup run. You have to think Geoff was pissed he couldn't have fans in the stands. He lost at least 30 million dollars.
