I didn't see anything like this get reported which is strange if it happened. That would be like gold for the Habs spin doctors.

because its all BS , it would have been on social media and the Habs would have highlighted that incident to cover their butt. I mean come on, as if that wouldn't be out there if that really happened.

Sometimes people are just assholes.
Team sports, usually try to avoid such people...

Again, they went the safer route, not the sexy route......is it the correct decision, stay tuned it will take something like a min of 3 years, and more like 5 years before we know what the flyers have, versus what we have.

I'm not saying no to this.....We'll I'm probably a no since we don't have anything in the pipeline than Caufield as pure scorer, but it would still not be 100% no with his 64pts season last year.
So youd rather have a conservative projection for Michkov than youd rather have a higher end one for Reinbacher.

Welcome to the Michkov club.

Its the upside of Reinbacher that is valued. He wasnt picked because of his floor.
I liked him in comparison to the other 6-10s because of his floor. He has a solid responsible defensive game and you’re sure to get a roster player. His offensive game is a mystery to me. I like his shot from the blue line which he gets to the net and his mobility.

Otherwise, I have many unanswered questions regarding his stickhandling and his offensive sense. Your classic top-2 D is a top-notch stickhandler that’s at ease handling the puck in the offensive zone.

I will not try to decipher what the Habs have seen in him but it is obvious that if they went for him at all cost (and refused a lot of assets moving down) they must value him very highly.

I feel Hughes is a bit in the crossfire from the media but the real culprit are the scouts, they are the one that wanted Reinbacher and only Reinbacher not Kent Hughes. Kent only did what they told him which is quite respectable because not many gms would not have listened to their scouts like the Oilers did when they wanted Ryan Murray over Nail Yakupov but were overturned by their management.

I am quite sure Hughes would have loved if his scouts told him that it was ok to trade down but they really only had eyes for David Reimbacher.

Now there are a lot of pressure on the kid, I won't lie, this one hurt a lot. I hope Reinbacher turn into a #1 defender because if he only become a 2nd/3rd pair it would be a huge bump for the team rebuilding.

Were not talking trade, were talking about picking MM or DR.
I’d have gambled on Michkov…

But if he is a total jerk with questionable work ethic and questionable locker room fit, plus when you add in the Russian factor…

It does make things more interesting.

This all lands on Bobrovs shoulders. If Michkov ends up a superstar and Reinbacher merely a 2nd pairing D, he should be fired and never land another job.

Even Hughes said he doesn’t project as a D1. So I disagree. Floor isn’t as sexy as ceiling but it certainly is meaningful to teams.

Taylor Hall got traded for Adam Larsson…
Had we drafted Michkov, do you think Hughes would have said that he projects him to be a 100 points, franchise winger or something more along the lines of top six winger who should thrive on the pp?

You say this as though teams never heap praise on their draft picks…

Brière, Keith Jones and Flyers brass said the had drafted an « elite » forward that can score « 100 + points » and added many other superlatives. I don’t know what Hugues would have said.

If Hughes had drafted a 6'4 (slash that hes 6'3) mutant (with okay skating and clearly lacking strength) forward that dominated men (but not in league play) do you think he would have claimed hed be the best player in the draft in 5 years?

Wait...

There's a thing called tempering expectations...
So are we still expecting Slaf to be the best player in the draft in 2027?

A kid is a kid. Frankly, I prefer if the team tells me that they just evaluated the hockey aspect. Even if they end up being wrong. To tell me that a kid lacks maturity is crap for a team who has such a development team. To me, a team with a great maturity is a plus. A kid that lacks maturity is a kid.

Not necassary, Shea Weber and Alex Pietrangelo are in the top 5-10 Dmen of the last decade and they where not top stick handler

I will take the big Dmen that can eat many minutes shutdown any pairs and that is great in transition before a guy that is stick handler à la Quinn Hughes as #1 Dmen in my team

I would not want to keep Lapointe either.

If it’s a lack of maturity, you can switch that yes

If it’s a character problem, that’s a whole different thing. Best exemple is Alexandre Daigle, that talent was top notch but m’en they where red flags all around him

Matheson was hurt most of the time that Caufield played. Monahan went down and took the balance out of the attack at a time when Suzuki was ppg.

Give Suzuki and Caufield 3 top D tilting the ice and a linemate that is worthy of the role, while Dach sucks up some attention - and Suzi probably gets close to 100 points and Caufield 50 goals.
:laugh: that's not gonna happen my dude. That's like having a Toyota and asking it to be a Ferrari

Id pass on Lindros tbh.

Also, if I had Pittsburgh? Id pass on Jagr to teach him a lesson.
